This game review by no means express the viewpoint of the author against the characters of which the game depicts or the actors therein.
Let's face facts, a game is suppose to be fun, wholesome and empowering to the extent that you can play again and again without becoming bored or incriminated. But this game stopped short of wholesome values that contemporary games produced within the last ten years generally display.
I first played the game and obviously got 'stuck' in various stages; but after I passed and completed the entire board, the game snapped and went into game convulsions. Games today are built on a slightly more sophisticated game engine, some which actually allows modifications and additional characters, props and scenes. But this game became "EXTREMELY POSSESSIVE" after all of the levels were completed, something that today's game developer kits consider being 'daemon' and should be omitted.
One alternative from today's games, anything from the Madden 2005 on up franchise. They are not shooter games, but at least they won't quick on you.
As far as the script and storyboard, the game plays well and could entertain players not looking for to many player opts (specifications, technical data, logistical reports, etc.). Basically, you play one of the two main characters, Mike or Marcus as you track down gang members to the drug lab and headquarters. Each level is a different gang and a little bit more difficult. The controller may throw most PS users, especially the duck and shoot options.
The soundtrack and dialogue are definitively 1990'ish; if you want, you can zero out the audio and dialogue while only leaving the sound effects.
The graphics were state of the art when the game was first released. But in comparing to today's GPU-friendly layouts, it is apparent that the developers were a little ambiguous about their product. Another alternative, if you are looking for shooter games would be 'Scarface- The World is Yours'. Although set in the 1980's, it was released in 2005 and has a slightly more intuitive game engine than this one.
The best part of the game is the shooting range. You can go in and choose which set and weapon you want to use and keep playing without interruption.
And finally, CERO. If you should reach it, the last level has a henchman named 'Cero' that appears to come directly from Resident Evil. You will have to use the duck and shoot moves here, so anticipate losing a lot of ammunition...
To summarize, this game is generally a platform for its production company to cover legal and closing costs from the movie it is based upon. It is not the best after school hang out and censorship has dominated it from the inside out. In the event a major studio releases a newer version, (along with the movie)it may be exonerated; but sorry gang, it should stay on the shelf.
