Shane and Cassie meet and sparks fly. Cassie decides to shed her “careful, good girl” routine and have one night with the sexy Shane. He’s crass, bad-mouthed, and a bit crude, but it’s exactly what Cassie wanted. Don’t mistake this for Cassie being a typical SEAL-whore; she’s not. Shane is the rare SEAL who does not use his status to get tail, so he never tells Cassie what he does and that he’s deploying the next morning. Nine months later, Cassie and Shane meet again when her father and his mother get them all together to announce their impending nuptials.
What makes this SB SEAL romance stand out for me is there is actual character and plot development. On their way down to the wedding, a number of incidents happen which allow Cassie and Shane to really learn the other’s true colors. While Shane can be crass and crude, even horribly rude to Cassie at times that took me aback, you have to be patient and look past the surface. We get to see Cassie struggle with her attraction to Shane and her love for her father; Shane has his own demons to battle, from a lack of healthy relationships to draw from to help him with his attraction to Cassie, to his PTSD from being a SEAL and the balance between being a protector and a healer.
Aside from the character development and well thought-out plot, I really appreciate the fact that Linda and Alana got their SEAL facts straight. If you’ve read any of my reviews, you might have come across a SEAL-based fact rant. :) While Shane’s personal motivations isn’t representative of every SEAL out there, his professional ones ARE. Thank you, ladies, for honoring our military in the best way (again, professionally and not personally speaking).
I found this book through Kindle Unlimited, but ended up buying it outright. It’s not a perfect book, and sometimes the actions or language can get under your skin, but it is a really good story and we’re given time to learn about our h and H. I’d give this a solid 3.5 stars, but the re-readability pushes it up to 4.
Overview. Cassie was on the beach watching the sea lions in their natural environment. She is studying for her PhD in marine bio. When she notices s sea lion pup needs help. She is not supposed to help, but decides to. After rescuing the pup, a man (Shane) pulls her out of the water and starts chewing her out. Shane thinks she is just a hot tourist. Since its his last night before being deployed with his SEAL teammates, her wants a night with her. The bond well. But go their separate ways. When Shane comes back in nine months, he is shocked that his mom wants him to meet her boyfriend and the boyfriends daughter. When Shane shows up, he's more shocked when Cassie is there too. But when they find out their parents are getting married, they both freak. But nature/fate can't came them apart until their parents get married. But life keeps throwing things at them on an extreme adventure. Will they part ways after the wedding or fight to be together.

Shane and Cassie meet one evening by chance. Cassie throws caution to the wind and ends up enjoying one hot night with Shane before, unbeknownst to her, leaving on a SEAL deployment for nine months. In spite of leaving her number with him, she doesn’t hear from him again, until they come face to face again…when Cassie’s dad and his mother announce that they’re getting married.
Neither has been able to stop thinking of the other in the last nine months. Shane is opposed to the marriage but strikes up a deal with Cassie that he would attend the wedding in Mexico and pretend to be happy about it, as long as Cassie does exactly what he wants, in and out of bed, during a week’s road trip to the wedding destination.
Shane is cocky, brash and blunt with softer, hidden depths. Between his job and his mistrust of love, he has no time for relationships. Similarly, between her graduate studies, her job and suffering the loss of her mother, Cassie has some commitment issues, too. However, on their road trip, instead of it being a final fling before they become step-siblings, they fall deeper into a relationship, risking their hearts and feelings. This book really surprised me with what happens on their road trip – injecting some fear and excitement into what might have been a formulaic love story. I enjoyed Cassie’s gutsiness in the face of adversity and how Shane shows his protective, tender side in making sure that Cassie is safe and happy.
Really enjoyed it!
Who does that?
Quite disgusted with this book I'll be honest I'm not usually one to be bothered by books with a lot of sex scenes or what have you but to be thrown in your face from the second page on not cool!
I'm not reading on! He would be known for being a pervert on a beach stripping off in front of a girl within seconds of meeting and she would be a first class tramp dropping her knickers for him!
The characters were absolutely brilliant and the storyline was refreshingly different.
Cassie meets Shane for a hot as hell one night stand the night before he gets deployed for nine months.
Only he comes home to find out they are about to become step siblings.
There's a lot to this book and I loved it.
A must read. 5 stars.
