We travel through the park’s glorious vistas, stopping along the way to chat up some of Lorelei’s friends. We visit with a big brown bison, a wise owl and a sleek pronghorn antelope. They speak about the diversity of terrains, colors, weather, and plant life in the Badlands. Lorelei highlights the rich history of the park found in the abundance of fossilized remains.
Do we ever find out why the Badlands have garnered their less than flattering name? No, not really, but with the words and illustrations of author Del Grande, we do find the name a misnomer. The Badlands are anything but “bad” - dramatic landscapes, steep canyons, towering spires and an abundance of wildlife. A fun, rhyming children’s story, this is just a wonderful primer on the majesty of the park, one that certainly sparks the interest of the reader and encourages motivation to plan a visit. A book certain to captivate the interests of readers of any age.
For fun, I included a picture I took on Window Trail! It looks just like the book (but luckily no rain)! We will be buying more in the series!
