I am 79 years of age and since the 1970s, I have been plagued with dry skin. I have taken the advice of Doctors of dermatology. None of the various medicines have worked. The dry skin has been a continuous problem. Mineral oil, as baby oil, had the best success. But 2 to 3 weeks ago I purchased a 10 ounce can of Bag Balm and a good coating well rubbed into the skin has been the best solution. I have no dry and cracked skin, anymore. I am very pleased with the result and will continue to use Bag Balm from now on.

I had seen the familiar Bag Balm container in drug stores for years before finally buying some. I decided to purchase it after seeing an article about it in the local paper here. It spoke of its history and its superior moisturizing and protective qualities, and, though it was originally designed for use on livestock, it has become extremely popular with people. Like a lot of other folks, I sometimes suffer from dry skin. Especially in the winter time when the air is cold and dry. And when I am out on a hike and my skin is exposed to dry wintry blasts of air continually. A visit to the drug store aisle to check out skin conditioners will serve to enlighten one that they are certainly not alone. There are tons of every kind of skin conditioner one can imagine. All conditioners, or balms, seem to work well at first. They moisten and condition the skin effectively enough. However, the real test comes over time in the hopes that it will well stay that way for a while. That is where this Bag Balm (BB) goes to the head of the class over all others.

If you have never seen or used BB before, you may at first be put of by its consistency, which will remind one of a thinner version of Vaseline. Although it is a little thick and gooey like Vaseline, it does not stay in that state for long once it is spread on the skin. It feels at first rather slimy, but quickly dries and forms a very effective coating on the skin. Though you can feel it on your skin for hours after application, it neither feels tacky nor sticks to your clothing. And it is nothing less than superior in its moisturizing properties. Even the driest skin will not see BB just disappear and be in need of another application in just a couple of hours like so many other lotions.

Bag Balm was highly recommended by a lady who worked in a professional beauty supply store to help with patches of severely dry and irritated skin on my shins during the freezing New York winter. Now, it doesn't seem like much to get a recommendation on a skin cream in a store like that, but I should tell you that they didn't even stock this item. She sent me to the drug store down the street to get it!

Bag Balm will NOT win any prizes for it's smell (just a touch medicinal) but it is a miracle cream if you are really suffering from patches of skin so dry that you end up raking with your nails to stop the dry skin itch.

Nothing I write could indicate what a life saver this stuff is. But, I guarantee that if you try it yourself you will agree that it had amazingly soothing properties.

I am a surgeon, and have always maintained the assumption that no product could actually accelerate the healing of wounds beyond what a healthy immune system could accomplish in a healthy person with a good attitude and proper habits. This product makes me question my assumption. I have no data, but it is my personal impression that fingertip cracks and other maladies resulting from dry or chapped fingers and hands actually heal faster when Bag Balm is used on them. I recommend going to bed with an excess of Bag Balm applied to affected areas of hands, covered by gloves to protect sheets, blankets, etc. I've used it successfully on my feet, also; in that case I recommend socks in place of the gloves.

At the very least, Bag Balm will soften calluses and dried-up fingertip cracks and cuticle problems so they don't catch on clothing (like silk) and will make such irritations more comfortable. I suspect it does more.

I’ve been using bag balm for over 20 years on my hands. I am a Master Gardener emeritus and have had many people inquire about how I keep my hands looking great with long, real nails after presentations or after working in a garden. Applying Bag Balm before working in the garden is key to keeping hands more clean and also retaining moisture from drying soil. A built in protection for your hands. I keep one in the car at all times, and one at home.

Half a year ago a dry patch of skin started on my face. The type where you can exfoliate and cleanse and moisturize and one hour later it is obviously flaking off. I did a lot of research on the best creams based on excellent reviews. None of them helped much at all. I am conscientious about what I eat and keeping hydrated. The dryness was spreading. Winter hit and sub freezing temperatures were making things worse.

I finally decided to use Bag Balm on my face after reading additional reviews. My hands always feel so much better with, then without it, but it always seemed a bit too thick for my face when a staple higher end cosmetic cream had always worked fine before. The skin on my face started healing within 24 hours. Within 48-72 there was little to no flaking any longer. I have had no issues with blocked pores which was an initial hesitation. Going out in cold weather does not dry my face or lips so long as I have protected them with Bag Balm. This is a salve, not a cream. There is a huge difference. Bag Balm graciously soaks into your skin and stays to offer a long lasting, protective shield from the harsh elements that can dry out and harm your skin. Even in below freezing weather, my skin is soft, supple, and moisturized. Unlike every cream I have ever tried which disappears within 30 minutes.
