Blake is in a long-term relationship with a man she knows is minutes away from proposing to her. With him, she feels safe and knows she'll get exactly what most women dream of. A man who would never sway his attention in the other direction, a house she can call home, a perfect marriage, and a family.

Perhaps it's in spite of all this that she becomes a single woman for one night. Okay...so she's not single but she acts as though she is. She throws caution to the wind, forgets her inhibitions, and somehow tosses any redeemable qualities out the window when she chooses to sleep with Casey Moore.

Casey's got a girlfriend.
Blake's got a boyfriend.

Somehow, they can't get enough of each other and hurt everyone in the wake of their.....whatever you want to call it. Blake isn't sure what she could call her relationship with Casey. She only knows it feels...right. It's more than comfortable. It's unexpected. It's everything she's missing out of her boyfriend Grant. Grant is charming and he's the all-around American guy. But Casey, Casey is on a whole other level that Blake never envisioned being a part of. So..she stays halfway on his level and halfway off...somehow seeing this as a perfect balance while continually confusing herself.

I did love this book. I hated the cheating. I kind of hated Blake. She was entirely too selfish. She hurt many people in her time of confusion...but I got it. I understood her somehow. Doesn't mean I like her actions any more. I don't. I do believe that some people are meant to be together but hell...they shouldn't fight it to the point of involving others in their down-whirl spiral of 'what the **** is going on' or 'what the **** do I feel?'

If I'm being completely honest...

Bait is easily one of my favorite books of the year. It's absolutely everything I "say" I hate in a book, but I've never loved being wrong so much.
Casey and Blake don't have your typical cookie cutter romance. M. Mabie has crafted real, quirky, and lovable characters that you can't help but root for even when your mind is screaming otherwise.
Casey....sigh. That man. THAT. MAN. He's not your typical alpha hero we read so much of these days. He's smart, funny, and witty. But don't for a second think that detracts from his sex appeal. Oh, and he can rock a pair of red jeans and v-neck like it's his freaking job. *Dibs*
This book has the perfect mix of angst, humor, steamy hot sexy times, and that magical x-factor that keeps you up at night long after the book is finished.

Although I was anticipating on reading this book when it released, aside from the hook-me-in blurb, I really knew nothing about it ahead of time. That turned out to be a good thing because I'm not sure I would have wanted a warning about how angsty it would be. From the very first few pages, I immediately liked Casey and Blake. My feelings about them would change throughout the book, though, particularly with Blake and not so much Casey, except to love him even more. Oh, so many ironies in this story, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Right from the get to, Casey and Blake find themselves drawn to each other even though they half-attempt to fight it off and from there, the affair begins. But it's not just a love affair, they have a very solid friendship forming, too, the kind where they can talk naturally and joke around and feel comfortable. Maybe it gets too comfortable, though, because Blake can't let Casey go even though she has a boyfriend, and is engaged. What I liked about Blake was how normal and relatable she seemed, she had typical goals and came from an awesome family - I loved her dad and her brother Reggie. She didn't claim to be perfect, but she strived for a perfect lifestyle that looked good on the outside, partly because it was expected of her and because it was safe. Yet she didn't play by the rules even though she was a traditional rule follower in every way except when it came to Casey. It's pretty clear how she really feels about Grant, that as nice of a guy that he is, he doesn't make her feel the same way Casey does, but Casey is more of the side thrill and risk, she's not picturing a future with him and he isn't offering one because she isn't paying close enough attention to entertain that thought. Casey is absolutely not a man-whore or a douche bag or a jerk.Read more ›

Mother of all that is holy!!!!!

This book has given me anxiety! From start to finish, I could not get enough. The author had me so engaged from page one.

Blake and Casey's story is raw. It is emotional. It is heart breaking. It is infuriating. It is love at it's best and worst.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I won't lie, there were times I just wanted to punch Blake straight in the mouth, but then I would realize that her stupidity is what made this book all that much more addicting.....

Great job, M. Mabie! Great job..... but I'm waiting.....

So, I just completed this book and I can already tell this is going to be one helluva a book hangover. Why you ask? The answer is simple: this story was the antithesis of most romance books, yet it was probably one of the best love story I've read in quite sometime. Let me explain further, there was a lot of mistakes/ poor judgement on the part of the heroine (Blake) and the hero (Casey) and I often got frustrated with their inability to just get it right. Yet, as I kept reading the more I understood them and realize just how true to life the story really was. As individuals, we often don't get it right the first time, and also the fear of the unknown often prevents us from taking a risk that may result into the best decision of our lives.

I think the author, M. Mabie is brilliant. The story was well-thought out, well-written and well-woven. I loved all the characters, I loved the sexy quirkiness of Casey, I loved how their relationship built via those adorable text messages and tension filled moments spent with each other. I highly recommend this book and I can hardly wait to read the next book.

P.S. If you loved the "Thoughtless" series, I think you will enjoy this book. The stories are by no means the same, but the entanglements, angst and expectancy are very comparable.
