From the Author

This is the third book in my Santa Monica Trilogy.

While each book can be read as a stand-alone, they do share the following:
  • Setting - Southern California. Think beaches, balmy weather, fusion cuisine, insane real estate, and paparazzi. (Other than that, Los Angelinos are just like the rest of us. Seriously.)
  • Characters - three siblings, each with his or her own story. They are, in order: Eva (Book 1), Logan (Book 2), and Angie (Book 3).
  • Humor - real-life problems, a happy ending, and plenty of laughs along the way.

It was fun to read about a smart, feisty woman who can hold her in a man's world. Nice change from the poor, little girl who needs a billionaire to take care of her. Great job!

This one is my favorite of the series but then I've always been a sucker for a good courtroom drama.
When attorneys Angie and Zach find themselves pitted against each other in a lawsuit the sparks fly. She’s got a vested interested in the environment and protecting her elderly clients while Zach needs his case wrapped up for his father regarding a land development deal.
I loved the courtroom and legalese as these two "briefed" each other about points of contention while battling their attraction even though they've always been distant family friends. Zach has a playboy reputation while Angie is afraid of letting her heart get involved with him and they have to find a way to settle the case and see if they have more than fleeting hormones ruling their chemistry.

This is a love story involving two attorneys, Angie and Zach. The are adversary attorneys but also have know each other for over 10 years. Angie files a lawsuit against Zach`s dad's company. Zach pursues Angie and they begin dating. It's your average romance novel. Although, I enjoyed reading it, I just felt like something was missing from the storyline. It just felt a little mundane. I haven't read any of the other books in the series as it's stated it's a stand alone novel. It was an easy light read, but there was just something missing. Opposing counsel yet destined for romance? Angel and Zack have known each other for 12 years, but have been adversaries for most of it. Can a lawsuit bring them together? I loved the fact that there were glitches in the plan and not everything was perfect. The characters were well-developed and just a fun read.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

This is the first book I've read by Jill Blake. It's the third book in a series, however for the most part it can be read as a standalone. I say for the most part because there were a few times, when in the heroine's point of view, where she would talk about certain characters like the reader was familiar with them. I went back and looked at the other two books and they were the main characters in those books. Being that I hadn't read the other two books, however, it left me scratching my head a little.

Aside from that, I did enjoy Zach and Angie's story. I'm not sure if the author has a background in law or just did her research, but the legal aspects of the book were very believable. The attraction between the two main characters was also believable. They had a history...a family connection.

I did feel that there were parts of the book that moved too fast and could have been developed more. While Zach and Angie had a history, it would have been nice to see some of the interactions between them during their day together rather than a brief description of what happened. Also, I felt this book really should have had an epilogue. It would have given a bit more closure to the story.

Overall, it was a good read. Will I check out the rest of the series? Maybe. While I liked the book, it didn't leave me craving more.

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a romance with a side of courtroom drama.

This is a delightful, enjoyable, modernistic type romance between two lawyer.
Angie who fights for a cause, Zach who wants the land that would put Angie's client her husband who has cancer in a position that would be financially hard for them. Both Angie and Zach have known one another for over a long period of time. But they each run in different circles. Angie who is now reallying from a broken relationship gone bad.
Zach the player, player, sex in the closet while attending a wedding, he sounds just to darn sexy, so she can't help but have a passion for him. She knows Zach to be a good, and honest lawyer yet as a player from women to woman, he gets the hots for her, but like all women that knows what the man is. She is scared to get involved, but has no problem giving him the blues, in court.
She is good, kind hearted yet a spitfire in the courtroom. Zach can't help but admire her, which is clear and well defined in the writing of this story as well.
I enjoyed this book, the character storylines had me cheering go woman go, laughing one minute, yet feeling sorry for Zach the next.
The support characters were on point, even the Ex Quinn, his character seem to change, yet keeps Zach on his toes where Angie was concerned.
The only part of this book that really confused me was why she didn't bust in that restaurant and confront Zach and miss thang, instead of sulking off hurt.

Author Jill Blake has another pleasing read with Balancing Act, the third and final book from The Santa Monica Trilogy. I am a huge Jill Blake fan and always look forward to each and every new story she writes. I was fortunate to have read the first two books from this series and enjoyed them very much. Regrettably, I did not feel the same way about Balancing Act, because I did not experience that scorching spark between the two main characters, attorney and environmentalist Angie MacDowell and Zach Stewart, a successful attorney and businessman. Both are passionate about their work and that is what ultimately brings them together.

Angie and Zach have known each other for a long time, while silently living with a mutual attraction for one another. Now they find themselves on opposite sides of the same case. Angie's client wants to remain in her apartment of 32 years, while Zach's company wants to tear it down in order to rebuild an environmentally friendly community. The environmental issues that go along with new construction play a major role in this story.

I truly love the way Ms. Blake writes a story, with clear, well thought out scenes and descriptions. Her fluid writing style is easy to interpret and a joy to read. Although this book is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
