In a very special brothel known as the “Balcony,” the customers live out their wildest dreams, oblivious to a revolution that’s going on outside. I've wanted to see this film for many years. I expected it to be a cross between "Querelle" and "Walk On The Wild Side." That it is not. It is interesting though. A great cast in good form in a thought provoking satire that feels like one of those special live dramas of the week/month on 1950s television. But the video and sound is of a higher quality. The extras are good. Lee Grant gives a wonderful interview and there are lots of previews of older films. As for the actors, Shelley Winters and Lee Grant are fun and Leonard Nimoy, with natural eyebrows, is kind of hunky going shirtless part of the time. Ruby Dee and Joyce Jameson are sexy and Peter Falk gives an unusually forceful performance.
Great political satire, a timely classic everyone should watch and share. We need relief and this drama both teaches and entertains. All the hypocritical powers revealed.
