I have been using Fruit Fresh for years. It keeps fruit looking like it's supposed to and it takes very little. I dehydrate oranges to use in drinks and the picture I've posted says more than my words ever could. I just slice the oranges, sprinkle Fruit Fresh, and then put in the dehydrator at about 140 degrees for as long as it takes. I am in a high humidity area so I use a higher temp for longer periods of time, at least 8 hours. I also use it on berries, apples, and pears with the same fantastic results. Fruit Fresh does not impart any flavor at all, it just keeps your fresh fruit looking fresh. I highly recommend.

    This Ball Fruit Fresh really does dramatically slow the browning due to oxidation of fruits and vegetables. My fresh guacamole stayed green for 3 days, as did my cut-up potatoes. I've successfully used it in the past to protect fruit salads containing apples and pears. I haven't used it on bananas, so can't speak to its efficacy on them.

    I love this stuff. My daughter loves apples but has trouble chewing up the skins. I peel them and slice them for her, but they quickly go brown. This product allows me to prepare apples in advance and give them to her throughout the day.

    I know that I should be all anti-preservative. But I had purchased sliced apples at the store that were pre-cut and protected with a similar preservative and was thrilled with it. I was specifically looking for a citric acid product with no sulfides. I trust that this product won't harm my girl. Feel free to bash my parenting anyway, I do the best I can, but I'm not expecting any mother of the year awards any time soon. (But if it makes you feel better, I sew her Halloween costumes by hand).

    I usually peel and cut my apples, then put them in a zipper bag about a half cup of water with several shakes of this produce protector. I shake them quite well to make sure they're completely covered, then drain out the water and push any extra air out out of the bag. This keeps the apples from oxidizing. I only use it for apples, but I'm sure it would have a similar effect on potatoes, guacamole or any other fresh produce product that reacts with the air.

    The other good news about this product is that I don't notice any extra flavor from it. Even though it's basically sugar and Vitamin C, it doesn't leave my apples tasting especially sweet or tangy.

    I found an apple one morning that my daughter had dropped under the piano the day before. I'm happy to report that while the apple was kind of squishy, it was not brown. I did not taste that one - but it looked good!
