We had a couple extra that we attached to larger quart sized Ball jars and used them for bath salt shakers. Such a great way to cut down on the mess and worry about a lid popping off if the container is dropped! Another great thing about these shaker lids is that if you have/save a plastic jar, like one from mayonnaise, these will fit it as well and you can fill that jar with powdered laundry detergent, Oxy-Clean, baking soda, or any other powered laundry aid. The holes in the shaker lid are too big to use for something like cinnamon sugar as it would allow the mixture to pour out too fast.
Overall I am very, very pleased with these lids. They are such a great idea and have been executed well by Ball. It would be great if they came out with another lid that had much smaller holes, or with lid like this that fit wide mouth jars. The cost of six packs of these on Amazon is about 2/3 less than what it would be at my local supermarket or Target. There are many things you can use these lids for, from sprinkles or chopped nuts to sequins or colored sand to dispensing laundry supplies. You could even use these with scented liquid and diffusing sticks.
Minor, but still affecting the ease of use- It would be nice if the green part were flat (without the raised Ball logo). I keep my herbs in a drawer and place chalkboard stickers on top to identify each easily without having to pull them out individually to read the side label. The stickers won't adhere to the lid surface and I'm still trying to figure out a way to efficiently label each jar. For now, I placed the chalkboard stickers on the bottom of the glass mason jar and just put them in my drawer upside down. I don't think that will last long because the concave glass results in bubbly stickers and when the jars sit upright while cooking the underside collects heat and causes them to peel off. (More over, in this scenario I can't keep them on top of the stove/ oven while cooking or they peal and fall off from the heat.)
