I did a little test. I used a seal and froze water. Next day I removed the lid and seal. When the water had thawed enough to float the reaming ice I boiled it in the microwave. (CAREFUL! The jar required oven mits.) I repeated the 'experiment' again but this time used the same seal with a different jar and lid. Both times there wasn't any leaking or distorting of the seal/lid/jar.
I make batches of soup, freeze it, and then take the frozen soup out in the morning and to the office for lunch. By lunch the soup has thawed enough to use in the micro. I wrap the jar in a sock that lost its pair just in case it gets jostled on the bus.
The seller probably thinks that the mouth of these jars is large compared to something, and did not intend to mislead. But these are not wide mouth pint Ball mason jars where the diameter of the opening is approximately the same as the diameter of the jar. If you put a wide mouth lid on the jar, the lid will be too big.
I can find another use for these, so it’s no big deal and I won’t return these or ask for a refund. But if you want true wide-mouth jars, these ain’t it.
