Great for Booch! (see pictures)
This is a review of the Ball Regular Mouth Jar Storage Caps Set of 8.These are a perfect replacement for the canning lids on the Ball jars I already owned. I've had the lids for a week. My glass jars have a diameter of 2 5/8th inches (see picture) and they fit perfect. I use these lids for Kombucha because the metal lids are not supposed to be used. The lids screw on nicely!I did not receive a discount on this product for my review. I paid full price and I would pay full price again. :)

I've become a big fan of these jar tops because I use the mason/ball jars for so many things. These fit jelly jars and the little half cup jars as well as the bigger regular mouth jars. For the big jars I use the wide mouth type for all whether half pint or quart so the tops are interchangeable on all, but I make jam and like the jelly jars for that and recently bought the little half cup sized jars for my homemade skin cream so I had to get some of the smaller jar lids as well.

If you're canning, of course you want the traditional two part metal lids, but for other uses where you need to get into the jar frequently, this one part plastic lid is ideal. I use my jars for dozens of purposes, and like the convenience of this lid. When I make a smoothie in my big blender, there is always enough for multiple portions so I put the excess in pint or even quart jars in the fridge for subsequent days. I store screws and nails in jars in my tool drawer. I freeze chicken stock and soup in the jars. I use them for fresh squeezed juice. The list goes on and on. I was buying speciality jars for my skin cream when giving it as gifts, but found the half cup ball jars were far more economical and work well with these lids. They are also great for dressings I've made where a bigger jar would be too much of a good thing.

The glass jars are great for storage of many things, are easy to wash and are endlessly reusable so having caps that work with them and are also easy to wash (do fine in the dishwasher) and reuse is important. These are great as are the wide mouth version.

This is a review of the Ball Regular Mouth Jar Storage Caps that I purchased from Amazon. I like that I got 8 so that I can use them for lots of different purposes at the same time.I got these because I have a lot of canning jars that I like to store stuff that I make in. These storage caps turn a regular jar into a perfect way to store food. I never thought they would be air tight so I don't have that complaint. I can take and put a lid on homemade yogurt, smoothies, fresh salads and lots of other left overs. I like to cold brew tea with these storage lids too. Also I use a lot of different sweeteners that come in smaller bags that are a pain to always be opening. I cut the labels of of those and taped them to the jars. It is much easier this way. I put the tea bags in the the mason jar full of water before bed and I have tea in the morning. It is my favorite way to drink my oolong tea and green tea as it is not bitter. They are not for canning, but the description doesn't say that they are for canning. I have all size of jars - pint, quart and 1/2 gallon that these work on. For me these were a better price on Amazon than they were in the regular stores near me.

I have some of these that came with a gasket that makes for an airtight seal. Most of my others don't. It would appear that ordinarily they don't come with any gasket at all which means that they ARE NOT airtight or leakproof.

That's an issue for me because I use these to make lactofermentation jars and they MUST be airtight. Solution? Tattler makes replacement rubber rings for their lids which fit these as an airseal gasket absolutely perfectly. Look inside your lid. If there's not a rubber gasket in there, it's NOT airtight or leakproof. Even if there is, gaskets eventually fail. Check out some replacement rings. Your local Ace Hardware can hook you up with foodsafe gaskets this size too...

That said, if you're storing up dry goods (or anything) for longterm storage then you'd do better with regular lids and bands vacuum sealed with a jar sealer attachment to your Foodsaver. These aren't so hot for longterm storage because they don't seal completely - these are best for opened jars stored in the fridge or for dry goods short term or for dry utility storage (crafts, hardware, etc) that get opened often. They are absolutely not for canning!!!

Any home canner knows how inconvenient those metal lids and bands are after being refrigerated. Especially when you have kids who make their own peanut butter and jam sandwiches. The metal lids get stuck together or go flying across the room, (I'm not really sure how they manage that one), but it has happened on numerous occasions. So I decided to give these a-go. They come packaged in what most people have come to expect, in basic cardboard box, no fancy packaging or wasteful plastic. The lids came out of the box, and the box went to the recycle can. They are easy to clean, and while my kids manage to still get it sticky, they are easy to clean, and while I am not sure if they are dishwasher safe, mine are washed that way. Plus I have yet to see one go flying. My husband also frequently uses them when mixing drinks in a mason jar. It is much easier for him to just use the plastic lid to shake up his drinks instead of using the standard lid and band. Plus that way I won’t worry about him rusting out all my metal bands! These are also rated safe for the freezer, so I see a few more of these purchased in the future when I make freezer jam, or to freeze fresh corn cut off the cob instead of a lengthy pressure canning session. I also like that these come in wide mouth and regular mouth lids. Since I have bought both, and they are equally awesome, the same review is going for both items. I would recommend to a friend and already have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tapa de plástico para los tarros ball mason o similares
Reviewed in Spain on June 12, 2018

1.0 out of 5 stars Deckel passen nicht
Reviewed in Germany on February 22, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Buena opción para sustituir las tapas metálicas.
Reviewed in Mexico on September 16, 2019
