Edit: 9 months later, the new machine has been great. This memory hasn't given me any trouble. Good stuff.
So basically I looked up the configuration I needed, checked out prices and timings, removed brands I didn't trust (even some "good" brands make bad RAM) and this baby floated to the top of the list. Well, this one and a slightly different Crucial version.
I love this RAM. Period. It is visually faster than my last set (which wasn't bad by any means). It can handle anything I throw at it.
It is probably the best RAM I have ever owned in my 30+ years of building desktops. Yeah, no benchmark to throw at you or anything. Just my impression from solid experience.
My only wish is that it were low profile, since my CPU heatsink overhangs DIMM4 on my motherboard. But that isn't the memory's fault. (Yes, I know there is a low profile version of the RAM too, but it was more expensive and I really don't need more than 16GB)
To install (quickly and easily), do a quick YouTube search to see what you need to do (it helps more than just reading). A quick note in case they don't say it,making sure you unplug the computer from power sources, discharge static electricity, and remove all jewelry. With today's technology in theory the odds of something bad occurring (using modern technology) is small, the threat of static electricity is unlikely unless you are charged (which is why they recommend you to verify you've discharged all of it before touching the internal sensitive components). You'll probably want to grab an air-can duster to remove any and all dust inside your computer (it's better to do this more than occasionally), installing the RAM itself is very, very quickly.
Follow the included instructions and refer to a short YouTube video to install, should take about 1-2 minutes total. You want to install the RAM with one slot open between the two sticks (or having a stick in between them if you are putting in more RAM). Typically it will recognize your new RAM automatically, especially with newer computers. Be careful with it so that you do not damage it (make sure the clips are working properly, and opened, that the RAM is aligned properly, it'll usually take a bit of force to put it in, but verify before doing so).
Crucial's website clearly states this product number represents 8gb 1866mhz 9-9-9-27.
The 8gb "1600mhz" ram is 8-8-8-24.
Now I do like these so far, why I put 4 stars for the product. They are running just fine at the moment, have had them installed a couple weeks. The seller needs to change the description for this product.
