Review

"Not only is Band ID the cleanest and most comprehensive collection of music logos I've ever come across, it also made me stop and think for the first time about a number of things - things like the true relation between a band's logo, its music and its identity, how a band's logo can endear or villify them to fans, and who the hell actually designed some of these things. This book's got it all.." &mash;turntable.com

This book has a lot more than just logos it's in some ways a historical reference. It brought me back to the days of drawing Van Halen logos on my desk at school. It spans so many generations and while there's a billion logos to comb through the design was refreshingly clean and simple. So while having a cleanly and intuitively laid out book is nice, the history and stories behind the logos are what's really appealing. More than just a book of band logos, the stories and history really drive home how much of an effect logos have had on the culture surrounding music. I had no idea!

I was excited really when this book showed up !! As a designer I was looking at it as a resource but it is way more than I could have hoped. It shows some of the most influential band logos of our time and reveals insightful information about the stories behind the logos and the people that created them. (did you know that Ace Frehely, lead guitar of KISS, designed their iconic logo?) I am impressed with the layout and juxtaposition of the different logos capturing the trends of different eras and music styles. Not just as a designer but as a music lover and pop culture enthusiast THIS BOOK ROCKS !!

Just got the book. So stoked. This is a very welcomed addition to any logo book addict's library. The short, well paced candid interviews are perfect and opens ones eyes to the sometimes (if not allways) overshadowed and underpaid designers that have helped define a bands branding. It also reveals some unexpected logo designers that included Ace Frehley, Freddie Mercury and others. I dig it and am digging it! Fresh idea. Well needed. Thanks Bo and Art! I am a logo designer of over 20 years and run the logo design firm BXC at [...] No designer index is my one less star.

It's a nice source for listeners and graphic designers. You can see the difference between genres and changes of the logos in time. Not only Rock or Metal , it includes lots of Pop and Rap logos too. it could be inspiring for your band.Plus, different styles of band logos with different curves or edges could be helpful for other projects and logo designs.
