About Us
Figures; they move us to the core. Cool, fun, amazing, scary, sorrowful. The feelings we get from figures can change from moment to moment, but the one thing they all have in common is soul - or tamashii. Tamashii Nations is a place for products with tamashii instilled by Japanese master craftsmen. Based in Asakusa, Tokyo, we make fully-assembledfigures for collectors, as a division of Japan's top toymaker, Bandai. Ten years have passed since the brand was established in 2007, and the products are now sold in twenty countries around the world. In 2016 we started the Tamashii Nations World Tour a series of events touring ten cities worldwide. Moved by our love for figures and characters, we pursue a uniqueness that cannot be found elsewhere by bringing tamashii to the world.

If there is a negative to be said about this robot it is only that it is not the absolute best in the Soul of Chogokin line. To this robots mild detriment that distinction belongs to this guys immediate predecessor. The GX-71 Voltron. GX-72 doesn't quite hit the astonishing highs of its brother Voltron. But it is one of the better SOC combiners.
The five individual Zords are well done. The only real faults lie in their tv designs. They are largely bricks. By far the best of them is the Tyranosaurus. Which has hefty metal content and utterly amazing articulation. This is good as it forms the core of the combined robot, and all of its articulation carries through. The Mamoth Zord is itself a work of art. In Mamoth form it is mainly a statue, just having some mild head and trunk articulation. But it has a remarkable and delightful transrfomation sequence to turn it into the arms and shoulders. The blue tank threaded triceratops sordid is mostly a brick, but with a few fun tricks. The horns are mounted on long chains that pull out from the head. The head has decent articulation and the mouth opens. The sides with the tank treads expand out and compress in. Sadly they don't lock in the out position so picking up the bot compresses them. The yellow Saber Tooth tiger is both a wonderful piece and the sets most obvious failing. It has great legs and a ton of poseability. It looks great. It's a really good cat robot. But that's also where it fails a bit. Remember I said the set only has negatives when compared to Voltron? This is the obvious point of negative comparison. The Saber Tooth Tiger is real nice. But over on Voltron we essentially have 4 of the nearly same exact robot executed soooo much better. The Saber Tooth tiger has a traditional Megazord or Voltron cat design. Kind of boxy, with normal front to back hinged legs. The GX-71 cats have waist pivots and pull out and pivoting shoulders and hips that let them move and pose like real cats. After holding those the GX-72 feels like a small step back. Which is a shame as it really is the second best Cat type robot yet made. The final Zord is the Pteranadon. Which is... there? Look let's be honest. The Pteranadon Zord is stupid by design. GX-72 superbly executes that stupid design, with some gorgeous chrome on the chest. It's a nice heavy metal piece. But nobody ever dreams of playing with the Pteranadon. It's just there to give the Chest Plate something to do until you need it.
GX-72 is technically a Tripple Changer. In addition to the separate Zords and the combined Megazord it can also do the frequently seen "Assault Tanker" mode. To my eye it looks like a 5 car pile up on the interstate. But that is in fact what the on screen version looks like, and GX-72 replicates it well enough to be used as a FX filming miniature.
Articulation on the final robot is okay. It's certainly better than any other Megazord combiner yet released. Considering the reference robot is a guy in a cardboard suit the toy moves pretty well. It's about on par with God Sigma or God Mars. It has an actual waist swivel (although you have to unpeg the tail to use it.) But it's not gonna hit an Iron Man pose in any way. It's rock solid stable on display.
Overall if you are a Power Ranger or Super Sendai fan is is a MUST HAVE robot. If you are a Soul of Chogokin or similar Die Cast collector I would put it as a "Must have but try and find it at a discount". It is one of the better SOC's. Probably the closest comparison piece is God Sigma. But at the $300 MSRP it is a hair overpriced. GX-71 earned every penny of that Price Point. GX-72 feels like it should be around $268-280. The extra $20 isn't a deal killer. You just wish it had a touch more for it. Maybe a stand or a few more add ins. The only accessories it has are the sword and the shield (which is the mammoth head). This is the ONLY SOC where even the most minimal display will leave you with a completely empty box.
Yes, the price tag is imposing, yes it has a few problems but it satisfies in three important ways:
1. The Zords- They're action figures in and of themselves, especially the Tyrannozord. If you wanted articulated, detailed and show accurate zords all your life, neither the 93 nor the legacy versions even come close. The SOC zords pass this with flying colors. The placement of the diecast is well thought out and they look like models used for the show.
2. Pose-ability- this is the most posable megazord ever produced for the Power Rangers franchise. Usually we got a few ankle tilts, maybe an opening hand with 4 joined fingers in most zords but this SOC blows them out of the water. Head rotation, arm rotation, elbow and shoulder joints, knee articulation and even a waist swivel make this a killer item.
3.High quality materials- feels like a solid and premium item as simple as that. I believe it justifies the price overall thanks to the excellent engineering and high end paint and placement of the diecast.
All that being said, there are a few things that I wish this piece would've had: rolling wheels and treads on sabertooth and triceratops, that is would've been a little bigger and that each finger was individually jointed. The fingers are separate from one another, but they're not jointed.
Top reviews from other countries
Perfect.
