be warned the box for this thing is HUGE! And most of it is filled with accessories. In particular the large flying support ship and the tank tread module (which looks suspiciously like the bottom half of the GunTank. Note: this show was made by the same people who created Mobile Suit Gundam and directly concurrent to it.) The assortment of weapons is impressive, Two nicely chromed swords, a laser pistol, an elaborate spear weapon, a cosmic fishing pole of some sort. Everything fits nicely and securely clipped onto a weapons rack, which is good, as there are many teeny transformation parts which would otherwise be lost.
Tryder's transformations into a spaceship or a tank are at best typical of the genre. Nothing bad, nothing special. You will do them once to see what they look like, but you aren't going to display him that way. It's all about the robot.
The robot itself is a mid to large sized SOC. He stands exactly the same height as Combatler V if that helps. Larger than the older SOC like Mazinger Z but nowhere near the size of GodSigma or GodMars etc. The support ship is quite large. A big plastic box. The tank tread unit fits inside the ship for storage. The transformation gimmick where the ship connects to the robot to form a really big ship is a bit weak. Not simply in looks but the actual connecting joint is not well supported. As I said it will be a "do once to see what it looks like" process.
Overall a great SOC. If you are a fan of Gokin I would label this one a must have that you likely never realized you must have.
I didn't keep it thou, since the box was heavily damaged, and the item also had signs of damage. It wa priced lower than the average price, but sadly it has no value for collectors in that condition.
Beside that, the item deserve; the transformation is easy and it is up to par to the other SOC transformable products. It has serious limitations related to the leg articulation saly; So far the best SOC has beend the Danguard, as far as it goes with leg articulation, but it is also true that the Danguard has a different mechanism to transform, which gave designers the chance to have different articulation.
The TG7 has basically limited articulations for the lower body, so the poses are limited, beyond the standard ones.
The transformation is quite fun to do; old school, reminds me of the old POPY, but this item has better proportion and a better transformation overall; it is also 15 years younger, which give it an advantage. The paint is nicely done; colors are great and no blobs of paint are on the surface; it is up to the high SOC standards (considering how much they cost...).
It has a ton of weapons and accessories; one of these is a huge base that connects to the back of the robot, once it is transformed in the jet form. if you watched the original tv series; you know what I am talking about. It is just a big shell made of plastic, but it add to the overall volume of the item, and it is anime accurate, so you will love it. The stand is average; I like stand that hold all the items nicely (so you won't have to open and close the box to get them), although I like the stand that show a bit of a diorama; and TG7 stand fits in the middle: there is a section where you put the alternate head, in the same position that it is in the anime (center of a kids playground, exposing just half of it); although the base does not look like a playground :) Kudos for the anime reference thou.
Overall for the quality and content, I give it 5 stars, but the lack of articulation and posability is something that disappoint me, so I took off a star.
Highly recommended thou, either if you are a fan of the deisgn of this item; a fan of SOC in general or you like well made robots from the 80s.
