This is not a toy; so be sure to remember this. You can give it to a kid, but many parts are really pointy and sharp.
The figure is pretty basic; hence the lower price; but if you are a fan of the Chogokin from Bandai, you will still get a great transforming figure.
The transformation is simple; the design is clean and totally consistent with the animated version. The item has various parts that are used for replicate the look of the anime; which are aimed at people that are fan of the "perfect transformations".
What happens is that the anime has some "magic", so some parts just shrink or disappear; which means that the wings folded are much bigger than the ones that you may see in the anime, or the head helmet/pilot ship has lines and various hinges that show clearly. So Bandai include 2 version of these items, which means that you may use the original parts for the transformation, or use the "anime correct" parts, which are not movable/transformable, but are consistent with the look of the anime. A nice touch for fans.
The figure is solid, the articulations are good, considering that this is a transformable figure. The amount of die cast is as expected from a figure of this line and price range. the only weak part is the torso: there is a mechanism where a small tab is intersecting with a groove on the bottom part of the figure, and this cause 2 issues: the first is that the paint may chip, due to the scraping/friction that happens, while transforming the figure. The second is that the joint is incredibly flimsy, so the top and bottom separate very easily, if the figure is not correctly handled (mine dropped on the floor, I was lucky to be on carpet, so no major damage happened).
Beside that, the figure is great; the transformation is easy, and the support vehicles are very well made (they included another space ship piloted by the father of the protagonist, , which separate in 2 different aircrafts, and a second version of the head helmet/ship, which transform). The weapons are great, very close to the anime counterpart, and they are not too many, so you don't loose them.
You also get a base, that will host all the parts neatly, and allow you to display the Danguard A either as space ship or as humanoid form.
Many complain about the lack of accessories, but how many of you use all the plethora of accessories and weapons, available with other more expensive figures? Most of the time they sit in a bag or in the original box, so Bandai decided to reduce the price, releasing the figure with minimal accessories. With prices well over 200 dollars, it is nice to see that Bandai is also offering more affordable figures, reducing the amount of accessories.
This is a great collectible, either if you were a fan of the original anime, or if you simply like animated figures from the golden age of the super robots.
Mine came with a wrong joint assets in the right wing and I was unable to transform it. I made some sawing and I lost some painting cover on the back to repristinate the transformation, so sometimes a minor problem may pop up.
The little vehicles are amazing so tiny but well done, I can recommend to everyone who is big robots fan. bear in mind that the original concept came from the end of 70` when everything was chunky and blocky, the most part of the model is solid heavy metal so give you good filing of solidity, also it can perform a very wide range of postures. It`s expensive but if you are already in the collection tunnel this is a masterpiece, even the transformation isn`t exactly the cartoony series (e.g the arms) but I can live with it.
Danguard Ace has an impressive amount of articulation you can pretty much put him into any pose you want to. Ace comes with (and it's good to see this again) a numerous amount of accessories, which lets you either deck him out to be a perfect transformation mode or let him retain the look of the animation. I love this figure and if your a collector of robots I would highly recommend this purchase.
