I am, and most likely always will be, an avid Mario fan. That's why when I got into figure collecting, this guy was immediately on my list.It's been a while since I first got this figure, but he still brings up memories of getting my first few figures.This guy is a so-so figure. He's a fantastic piece, with beautiful paint and sculpt and some pretty surprising articulation, but I expected more from Bandai.His articulation gets him a solid 90 degrees in the elbow, which I can commend, and a swivel on the wrists. The knees get only slightly less than 90, and the feet are on a double ball joint. The problem I have in articulation is his head. It's on a hinged ball joint, which is nice, but it's near useless mint out of package. The only way you can get good range is to wear it out, which isn't fun because it doesn't take long before his socket gives and the head gets a little floppy. The only other problem I have with the head is that it barely turns until, once again, the joint gives out (ps, I don't mean that the joint breaks, it just spreads out a little and doesn't grip the ball as tight).The accessories are also really well-done. It didn't take much to make these look good, but that just means that they left nothing out. The mushroom and block have a nice flat color, while the coin has a reflective surface that looks exactly like the game. The only gripe is that these are the only accessories. No hands, no faces. They're sold in separate packs with other diorama pieces. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for diorama packs, but not when they package essential pieces like open hands. Also, there are no alternate faces as of now. I would've even taken it if they released THIS figure exactly how it is, but then release a separate deluxe one with more goodies.Overall, it's not the greatest figure out there in some spots, but it definitely makes up for it in others; and it's especially good for its price. If not for the figure qualities, this is without a doubt the best Mario figure on the market.

- i knew this was a 4" tall figure
- i am not a huge mario fan (although i do like the bastard)

love the packaging surprisingly small box .. figure is absolutely amazing. very high quality. finish is not 100% but very close. colors are 100%. same goes for mushroom - very small almost unseen blemishes but almost 100% perfect - perfect color on both.
heavier and sturdier than i expected. great plastic. does not feel like it will break. although a 5 years old may pull it apart... but i think everything can be placed back as long as you don't loose anything. articulation is SLIGHTLY limited by his size and structure but still you can do many many poses. you can balance him on one leg making him look like he's about to kick.. very entertaining. i think this is more suitable for a slightly older person or a big mario fan. nice to see how far toys have gone. the accessories are well built - i also bought the additional box sets.. highly recommended if you think its worth 25$ - :) i have a feeling it will be worth much more one day.. but who knows.

In my opinion, this is the best Mario figure in the whole market. It has about 15 articulated parts(feet, knees, upper legs, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and "neck"). By popping Mario's head up a little you can get it to smoothly turn, and look up and down, and you can take his hands off to switch with others in different positions. My only disappointment is how stubby the arms are, but that is really a trait of Mario himself and not unique to this action figure, although the shoulders could be a little smaller to allow more movement, similar to the World of Nintendo figures. Overall though, I am very happy with this figure. He seems good both for play and for display(unlike other figures made by SH Figuarts) and my 5 year old brother has played with him without breaking him(poor Mario has been dropped on the floor and hit by other toys, but he has no noticeable scratches or dents in the figure). Overall in my opinion this is the best Mario action figure out there, both for play and for display, and he excels in both. You can buy other sets that allow you to plug a clear arm into Mario's back and put him in jumping poses as well.

I've long been on the hunt for Nintendo-based figures, and this is the latest one to come across my desk. Given my long-time love of the series, I pre-ordered without hesitation, only to find out later that the figure had been receiving a fair few negative reviews. So, today, I finally got my hands on my order, along with the other sets for a complete collection. With figure in hand, I can happily give you my thoughts.

The figure is very well sculpted, and when properly posed looks simply marvelous. It's very much Mario, and very much the figure I've waited so long to get. Mario and his accessories were clearly sculpted with care, and it all fits rather well together with eachother. It scales well with the Nintendo Figma figures, though not perfectly- it's from a different line, so that's not really all that surprising. If you need help explaining it, just think of him as Super Mario, rather than his regular, non-mushroom'd self. Despite complaints about the posability, I find that I have few/no real problems getting him to fit with what I want for the most part. He really shines in jumping poses, as well as holding/throwing things like the shell. He works quite well in a figure environment, and I'm not going to lie, I can't help but feel cheerful and happy every time I look at him. He's just such a pleasantly done figure that evokes the same magic and joy that his series has brought us for years.

Now, some of the issues with this figure... while he does pose well, there are a few things that could have been done much better. Mario is articulated very well for a 2D space, but it doesn't translate well to the third dimension. his arms can't be stretched perpendicular to his body, and his legs have the same fate, unless you turn them around (it's all blue, so it doesn't look that bad.) Likewise, his head doesn't move very much either unless you pop it off and leave it only mostly attached. Beyond that, if you want to pose him with other figures, you essentially NEED to buy at least one more set to get a stand that can hold him, and that same stand is also what's used to holding up some of the other accessories. So, if you want to use the other item sets to form a stage, you should be wary of that. If you have any ideas for other things you could plug his stand into that would work, please comment and let me know, since I'd love that information.

In summary, the figure is far from perfect- but at the same time, it's still well made and is likely to be the best Mario figure we're going to get. The figure alone, with no accessories is worth what I paid for it, and with the other sets he really starts to become a figure I enjoy. I just wish he posed better and that I didn't have to buy everything seperately, particularly the stand. That being said, I'm quite content with this purchase, and highly recommend it to anyone setting up a Smash Bros display.

This is the best Mario figure made hands down...Period. I've been collecting and selling toys for over 25 years, and this without a doubt will one day be one of those "Grail" figures to all those that love all things Super Mario Bros. Right now he can be snagged for under $20 (3 trips to Starbucks if you tip) and I can see that being triple soon after the figure line is retired...and in 5+ years selling for over $100....don't think so? You should look up some of the prices Figmas older figures...which are done in this scale. Paint apps are beautiful and tight. Sorry Jakks...know your figure is $10 cheaper...but it looks it too. The articulation is limited to Mario's body size but what he does have, is outstanding and allows the figure to hold a multitude of poses. The extra "play sets" you can buy really make this figure shine...and with Luigi (Jan) and Yoshi (May) being released early 2015 and more to come....this line has legs and when it ends these well crafted little gems will be next to impossible to find outside of EVILBAY where you will pay the people who grabbed up as many as they could for under $20. Must buy for the Mario fan.
