Honest and simple materials speak to time-tested quality and put the focus where it belongs: on the pure essentials. The headband of these over-ear headphones is crafted with soft lambskin leather for longwearing comfort, as are the outsides of the memory-foam filled ear cups. The cool sliders are made with stainless steel, which has been PVD-coated and hairline-brushed to a sleek and elegant finish. Ear cup discs of stamped, polished, and anodized aluminum echo the clean look, while cords are encased in braided textile and left partially visible between the slider and headband, adding a hip and durable design touch.

The only issue is they're falling completely apart. I wear my headphones daily, and these have not held up. As you can see in the photo, one arm has completely dislocated. I can shove it back into place, but this means the headphones are not longer adjustable at all. Not pictured in the photo is that the leather along the headband is also starting to thin and wear out. Part of the appeal of these headphones was that they look good- if you're a daily wearer having a less ugly pair of headphones is great- but they don't anymore.
Very disappointing for their price and the investment I made in them.
These H4s are the best ones I found under $300.
I considered the following:
Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II)
I also tried multiple cheaper headphones like Avantree 40 and Symphonized Headphones. They were exactly that - cheap - mediocre materials and average sound. In this same class are the AUSDOM headphones I already owned, which were also not comfortable when wearing for hours (the reason to start the search).
Unfortunately, these cheap headphones get high ratings on Amazon, because most people are just looking for cheap headphones that sound OK. That makes it difficult for those of us really interested in sound.
The B&O H8s, which are almost identically constructed, simply didn't sound as good to me as the H4s, which is fine, as the H8's are $100 more.
The Bose phones were the most comfortable of all the phones I tried. They're light and fit nicely over the ears. However, the H4s sound slightly better, believe it or not. I was surprised. Fortunately, I was able to get my own tunes hooked up to both for an apples to apples comparison. The H4s performing better worked out well for me, as I was able to get the H4s $100 cheaper than the Bose phones. :)
The JBLs sounded great and were fairly comfortable. While they appeared to be sturdy, they apparently have a circuitry defect per multiple Amazon reviews.
The Sony MDR1000X/B phones sounded good. In fact, I saw a recent article that suggests they have surpassed the Bose phones as the best ANC phones available. However, I did not get them because a) they were not quite as comfortable as the H4s and b) they didn't sound quite as good as the H4s (or Bose) to me.
The Sony XB950N1 phones were some of the most comfortable (light and not tight on the head). As well, they have good bass, as advertised. However, the sound was a tad bit muddier than the H4s. For the price/performance, if I hadn't gotten the H4s, I would have gotten these.
As other reviews suggest, the H4s don't have Active Noise Cancelling. However, they block out more sound than most headphones I've ever had.
The H4s were the third most comfortable phones I looked at (Bose were #1 and XB950N1 #2).
The sound quality on the H4s was the best of the phones I looked at. (Bose was #2.)
The construction of the H4s is the best of the phones I looked at - very solid. In fact, a bit too heavy for some people's tastes, but fine by me.
The bass on the H4s is definitely there. You just have to make sure you can tweak the sound on whatever player you use, because out of the box the H4s are not as bass-heavy as some prefer.
Note that price was a tertiary consideration for me. Amazon has some killer deals on phones that are refurbished or slightly used. I was able to get some practically brand new H4s for about $80 cheaper than new ones.
Unfortunately the ear-cups have already started to RIP after normal use.. terrible quality. Also, the sliding band doesn't hold properly. Avoid at all costs! Shame because the sound quality is great.

Feel - world class
Comfort - world class
Only gripe is they're pretty lame in terms of noise cancellation. This works both ways - so if someone sits next to you and you have your music on mid level volume they can hear it pretty clearly.
I did a lot of research and eventually stumbled on the H4s on offer for £135 at Amazon.
I wouldn't pay the full price for these as I find it hard to justify paying £250 for something like this.
The audio quality is fantastic and well-balanced but as such may not suit bass nuts although this may be addressed by using the B&O app which allows some degree of tuning.
The quality is as you'd expect from B&O, with leather ear pads which cosset you even after many hours of listening and a headband which you don't notice is there.
The one omission is a case, although if space isn't tight, you could use the box with its felt insert. You'd then be able to keep the potentially scratchy 3.5mm audio cable and micro USB charging cable away from your headset in the space below, as per their shipped state.
Battery life is great and the 55% charge state they shipped with didn't change after a few hours of listening. Time will tell how accurate this is.
I should point out that the cat pictured is an optional extra!
The left earpiece simply stopped working, wireless or wired! Never banged them or dropped them. Just...stopped.
Thankfully, Amazon were brilliant as ever and I had them refunded because I never fancied a replacement, the trust had gone.
These are great but not amazing. Great sound, great functions, easy to set up and use, beautifully designed and of excellent quality materially.
Not the bassiest like Beats but definitely a more refined sound than those. I find the bass on the beats a bit tiresome after a few tracks. I get bass lethargy!
These have great bass but it’s smoother, less pounding, and it doesn’t drown out the other musical details.
I’m knocking a point off for the lack of their own charger plug and the tiny length of the charging wire.
I mean, nobody wants a short length! Do they?
