EDIT: It turns out that this isn't even eligible for return. If you're thinking about buying this, don't.
SO- If you have a UV-3R+ ... enjoy using that little earphone/mic that came with the radio because this handmic didn't work for me and it probably won't work for you.
These 'kinda' work with the UV-3R+. There is an issue with the tolerances between the radio's internal connections and the speaker/mic's plug in. If I just plug it in and use it like I would expect/hope to use it, it doesn't transmit at all, and the sound does not come thru the speaker.
HOWEVER - If I press the connector into the radio really hard and then try to use it, then it works as advertised.
I may try some very careful dremel tooling of the outside of the larger hole (it appears to be a shade taller) on the UV-3R (this may not be the speaker/mic's fault), and if that is in fact the problem... expect me to upgrade the rating.
My complaints? It's cheap plastic. It feels like it would break pretty easily. So don't drop it. That wouldn't be too much of a risk, except that the clip on the back is pretty bad. It's very loose, swivels way too easily and won't really stay clipped if you move around too much. So no running, jogging, stair climbing, etc. Also, it sounds very tinny. Audio going out and coming in is pretty bad quality compared to most other mics. I've had mics for half this cost that out performed it by a long shot. But the bottom line is that it works and it gets the job done.
Update - August 2013: This product was closer to $29 when I purchased it and made the review. At the time of this update the price is about $9. At the current price, I would look past any flaws in the product. But this rating reflects the price that I paid.
The price is perfect and I'm sure he'll be asking me to order more in the near future if he can get it to sound clear.
UPDATE: Within a couple weeks after leaving a 3-star review with the comment above, the microphone audio quality deteriorated to the point that I threw it away. I don't think I was exceptionally rough on it, but I didn't beat it up too bad either.
