Editorial Reviews

Adrienne Beauvisage has a knack for getting herself into difficult situations. The latest involves her employer, Walter Frakes-Hogg. Adrienne scorns his repeated advances, then is forced to flee his house, and he promises to seek revenge. Adrienne accepts a position as companion to Lady Thomasina Harms at her home, Harms Castle. When her father realizes she has no intention of leaving England with him and that she may be in danger, he asks an old friend of his to act as Adrienne's protector for a few months until she turns twenty-one. Adrienne doesn't like this plan, but she knows she has no choice if she wants to continue to have her independence. Nathan Raveneau is a sea captain with the reputation for being a rake. When his friend Nicholai Beauvisage offers to exchange his fifty acres of land on Barbados for his services as Adrienne's protector, Nathan cannot say no. With the additional land to add to his own, Nathan will be able to keep an eye on a neighbor he suspects of criminal activities. Using the name Nathan Essex to protect his real identity, Nathan accompanies Adrienne to Harms Castle, dreaming of autumn when the fifty acres will be his. But watching over Adrienne isn't as easy as it sounds! From the beginning, Adrienne despises Nathan Essex. He tries to control her life and she can't stand it. Yet, there is something about Nathan that makes her heart beat faster. When Nathan proves that she is in more danger than she realizes, Adrienne has no choice but to trust him. With Walter Frakes-Hogg determined to harm her and Lady Thomasina's untrustworthy son Huntsford trying to woo her, Nathan has his work cut out for him. He finds himself attracted to the impetuous and beautiful Adrienne-- and ready to break his promise to her father so he can have her for himself. In an adventure that takes them from England to the island of Barbados, Nathan and Adrienne discover in each other something they never even knew they wanted. From beginning to end, Barbados captures the heart and delights the imagination! Cynthia Wright weaves a grand tale of romance and adventure! A marvelous story to rival the best of romantic fiction! Memorable characters, a fast-paced plot and sizzling passion fill the pages of Barbados! Cynthia Wright is a true gem among writers!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. From the Inside Flap

He promised to protect her, but he seduced her instead....
1818: Adrienne Beauvisage was both outraged and intrigued by the dashing rogue hired to be her protector. She knew little of the danger that lurked in the beautiful English countryside...or of the daring that Nathan Raveneau, posing as Nathan Essex, would employ to keep her out of harm's way.
It wasn't until he boldly spirited her away to his ship that Adrienne discovered his true identity: Nathan Raveneau was The Scapegrace--the mysterious sea captain who had become London's most delicious scandal.
Reckless temptation ruled their azure days and velvet nights, as Adrienne sailed to Nathan's plantation on exotic Barbados, unaware of the threat that followed or of Nathan's vengeful obsession with his sworn enemy. But Adrienne dared to challenge Nathan to the most unpredictable adventure of all: love....
