You have to understand what you're purchasing when you make the decision to buy Barbie's latest Dream House. You're buying THE DREAM - the idea that through all of her struggles, through all the obstacles in her life, the ups...the downs...the constant upheavals of moving from job to job and house to house...Barbie has managed to succeed in life. She has finally MADE IT! This is Barbie living LARGE.

The Dream House is the full realization of Barbie's highest aspiration - to live in sparkly pink suburban splendor. With this house, all of Barbie's needs have been met (except for the need to take a bath, since there's only a shower stall and one bathroom - which seems a bit unrealistic given the size of the home...but I digress...)

Barbie will be happy. Your wide-eyed daughter, niece or granddaughter will also be happy because, and I can't say this enough, the DREAM has been REALIZED.

However, if you waited until Christmas morning to take this thing out of the box and put it together, your dreams of having a relaxing and joyous Christmas morning will not, in fact, have been realized. That's because the instructions are in some ancient form of Sanskrit and are nearly impossible to decipher. Thankfully Mattel put up a video (on YouTube) on how to assemble this thing, but even that seems to be missing some steps. Also, BE WARNED, once you snap the pillars in place, they are impossible to remove. This is important when you realize that an operational elevator is dependent on placement of said pillars - one of which is now affixed to the floor of my daughter's dream house via the liberal use of scotch tape.

This dreamhouse is far more exciting than anything I owned when I was a child! My daughter is only 3 1/2 and this is her first real introduction to the Barbie world. She already loves playing with it and I know that she will continue to use it and grow in her imagination as she gets older.

That being said, this dreamhouse is very difficult to put together and not the best quality. The company recently released a youtube video that helps you with assembly, which is nice because the instructions included in the box are not sufficient. I have problems with the two elevators getting stuck in-between floors (I fixed one thanks to another video on youtube that shows you how to remedy it, but the other is still not right). They are too difficult for my child to move, a bit of a disappointment when it is one of their main selling points ("two working elevators!"). It is nice that it comes with lots of furniture and play food/accessories, but the furniture comes unassembled and doesn't exactly "snap" together as much as it just "fits" together, so the chair legs are constantly falling off. If the cost were less, I think I would be more apt to recommend it to others, but I think it's just too high based on the quality of the product.

Despite its shortcomings, I am glad that my daughter has this to play with and I think we will keep it around for quite a few years.

I received a free Barbie Dreamhouse as part of a One2One Network review campaign and all opinions are my own.

The elevator gets stuck, does not work well, lo cual es una lastima porque es muy bello. The instructions are very bad, my husband lasted 5 hours putting this toy

This is the ONLY thing my 9 yr old daughter wanted for Christmas. I purchased it a week ago and hid it in the garage. If I had know then what I know now; I would have opened and started assembling my purchase it immediately.

1. There are literally dozens of VERY CHEAP plastic pieces.
2. I am not dumb and have even assembled more than a few pieces from IKEA, but these instructions are useless. They are mostly pictures and any writing is in a 2 pt font. Thank GOODNESS I found an online video by doing a search for Barbie Dream House instructions video (seems I wasn't the only helpless schmoo crying after opening the box) then even after watching the video THREE times - I had to watch a video on the ELEVATOR troubleshooting tips a couple of times.

Other than the 3 million pieces and 1 million stickers, my daughter almost fainted when she found that Santa had left her "ultimate" toy and I have hopes of having the assembly completed by Easter! My daughter even commented that Santa was wrong for not putting my toy together for me.

Good luck!

We are now in our 3rd hour. Flimsy piece of plastic junk. Instructions are the worst I have ever seen to assemble anything. Thank goodness we found the YouTube video. If it were not the last night before Christmas I would send it back. Elevator works poorly. Can't really say anything positive about it.

This thing is HUGE! It's large enough that all three of my children (ages 8,7 & 4) are able to play together! And because it's "curved" when fully extended they aren't right on top of one another or fighting for elbow room. For my 4yo it's just heaven! All the sounds and lights and doors and drawers have her busy all day long.

However, I am extremely disappointed with the construction! It took my husband and I (both of whom are generally handy people) nearly 3 hours to put this together. Most of that time was spent attempting to understand the instructions which are vague at best. The "bathroom" wall had to actually be glued in place because it just kept falling off, even after being snapped in place. The main elevator only works for floors 2 and 3 and doesn't come all the way to the bottom floor without getting stuck. We followed the trouble shooting instructions on how to fix that, but to no avail. Also, the front doors can't be opened or closed or touched at all really without falling off.

Lastly I put out a warning for families with small children or pets, all the "pieces" (including silverware, toothbrush, food, etc) can be VERY SMALL! Some are large enough to not be worried about, but others - like the toothbrush and silverware - are dangerously small! These could be a danger for small pets and children under 3. And with the abundance of them, there is little doubt that they WILL end up all over the house, even if you keep other children and pets clear of the house itself.

Over all, my daughter LOVES this house, and that makes the hours of assembly, glue and stepping on a random plastic turkey in the middle of the night all worth it... BUT, had I known some of these things before we got it, I may have gone for another model...
