Oh hell yes! A new release of the definitive classic!

I read the original release decades ago, and even back then it was the *definitive* research exposure of L. Ron Hubbard and the Scientology organization that he created. Russel Miller had traveled the world collecting research information, collecting court and FBI documentation, interviewing witnesses, interviewing ex-operators and ex-customers of Hubbard's criminal organization, and he organized the valuable information in to a well-researched, well-written expose' of all things known and suspected about Hubbard and Scientology.

First time readers of this new release will find details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States handled not only public complaints about Hubbard and his frauds but also how the FBI handled profoundly disturbed conspiracy-drenched lunatic kook-spew letters written by Hubbard to the FBI to denounce all kinds of invisible enemies that Hubbard was plagued with, from Communists and Nazis to aliens from outer space, Hubbard's profound mental problems dripped from every letter he wrote to the FBI seeking to enlist their help in crushing invisible boogeymen.

One of the most profoundly valuable sources of information that Miller acquired was a glut of "secret" documentation provided by one-time Scientology customer Gerald "Gerry" Armstrong, a man who emerged from the Scientology corporation as one of the world's best-known human rights heroes who fought against Scientology's crimes and abuses and who remains one of the world's best-loved Humanitarians working within the arena of opposing Scientology's crimes and abuses.

This is a "must-read" book.

This is the definitive historical reference work on L Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. There is information in this book that you will find nowhere else, especially about his early life. The author did a very detailed analysis of L Ron Hubbard, the man.

Scientologists will complain that it paints a picture at odds with the official history promoted by the Church, that it unfairly concentrates on his flaws. Was he a closet Satanist, worshiping in the Aleister Crowley tradition with the quintessential rocket scientist Jack Parsons, eventually running off with Parson's girlfriend and his money? Or was he assigned to clean out a group of Satan worshipers undercover? Did he have an undistinguished naval career marked by a 3 day attack on a non-existent submarine? Or was he crippled and blinded in battle in World War II, serving in Navy Intelligence? Liar and con man or modern-day messiah? You have to do the research yourself and see, but this is the book to start with.

Tellingly, in all the litigation Scientology brought to kill this book and prevent the truth from becoming publicly known, they did not dispute the facts presented. They did not sue for libel or defamation. They did not dispute specific facts because they could not.

Believe what you wish about the nature of man and God. If you are a Scientologist, or curious about the subject, you have a right to your beliefs and to say what you will about them publicly. However, if you are the slightest bit curious about the life, loves and adventures of L Ron Hubbard the man you need to read this book and the excellent "A Piece of Blue Sky" by Jon Atack. Not the official Scientology screed.

Soooooooo much information is in this book. There is so much detail that you wonder how the author could have collected all of it. Assuming that all the information is correct (and it has to be more accurate than the church's version), this is the most complete (real) biography of Hubbard that exists. I enjoyed reading it because it is interesting, however, I did not find it to be a true page turner. I agree with the author, the true story of his life is just as interesting or more interesting than the fake story pushed by the church. I'm glad I read it, and I recommend it to anyone that is interested or who has left the church.

Having read many of the Scientology-damning books published in the last 20 years or so--Lawrence Wright, Jenna Miscavige Hill, Janet Reitman, Jon Atack, Mark Headley, John Sweeney and more--I can say unequivocally that Russell Miller's "Bare-Faced Messiah" is the Holy Grail when it comes to stripping away the myth of founder L. Ron Hubbard.

If you are at all acquainted with Hubbard's story, many of the incidents related here will be familiar to you. But you will learn bizarre--sometimes touching--details that you've never read or heard before.

In short, this is investigative journalism at its finest. Well-written, well-documented and packed with information, this biography tears the lid off the shiny stories about Hubbard's "incredible" life and achievements. They are incredible, all right, but not for the reasons Scientologists would have you believe.

I can't believe that anyone followed this guy, or even worse, continue to buy this narcissistic bunk. This guy is beyond Donald Trump! I have read a couple of Scientology books as I study comparative religions, but this is NOT a faith, but a SCAM. I'm glad that he is no longer present, but his delusions live on. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!!
