Reese Bareden is Logan Riske's partner. Alice is his neighbor who he enlists to dog sit for him. The heat from their mutual attraction is much more than either wants to fight but trying too cool it down for acquaintance sake proves to be the same exercise in futility.
Alice has ghosts and secrets and secrets and ghosts that she manages to bring down on the love undercover crew. The police, led by LT Peterson who is trying to clear the precinct of corruption must handle a little mishap instigated when Alice saves a girl from the same fate she escaped. Now Alice is the target of a drug Lord's attention. He intends to teach her about messing with his mules before he lets Hickson deal with her demise.
Having read book 3 of the series first I see how all of these characters aid in helping each other. It has been wonderful to be immersed in the world of Lori Foster's "connected" books.
Alice is a strong woman whose only flaw is that she gives in a little too quickly when Reece gives her an order. I understand the motivation and have no issue with it being her character's trait. Reece should have an alpha tat on his pec or bicep since Alice loves to grab on to them.
The narrative and cast of characters fill every page of the story with action attention and desire.
I highly recommend this book.

RATED: 4.5 Stars
This is the second book in the Undercover Series and she has these cops figured out! Outwardly Reese is all tough and dedicated yet inside he is tender and caring. Lori does a great job of blending the two sides of him. Reserved and guarded Alice also hides a side of herself. One that longs for closeness and love. I really liked her character and how she faced the demons of her past and moved forward to embrace life. The disparate group of people that pulled together to combat the evil drug lord worked well together and I ended up caring for each one of them. I hope they appear in future books.
I truly enjoyed this book with all the action and tension meshed with the friendships and romance. It had it all nestled nicely in uniform. Lori Foster is now on my favorite list!

Honorable, job focused, and protective Detective Reese Bareden was the perfect counterpart to the ever elusive and a little bit strange Alice Appleton (whom we first met in Trace of Fever). I could feel their chemistry from the first page of the book. Despite the suspense and intrigue resulting from the very serious situation they found themselves in, it was the steamy and sometimes funny interaction between Alice and Reese that made this story great. I also enjoyed the interactions with the supporting cast, especially Rowdy!
This book provided something for everyone. For first time Lori Foster readers, it was a great introduction to the sexy, fun-filled, fast paced romps that define Lori's core style. For long time Lori Foster fans, it also was a real treat to get to know even better some very familiar characters that we already loved from Run the Risk (like Logan, Pepper, Rowdy and Dash!), as well as get a surprise visit from a favorite character from a different Lori Foster series. All in all, it was a great read, and I highly recommend it if you are looking for something fun and sexy.
