On the eve of one of her her best friends weddings Arielle Chandler I nearly mowed down by a man jogging on the beach. Arielle has been raised by her Grandmother to believe in an Indian folklore that ther is "one" true love destined for her. She believes the man that runs into her is the "one" until she finds out he is going to bulldoze a hill that Arielle believes is the site of an ancient Indian burial ground. Luke McBain is attracted to Arielle but doesn't believe in any of her Indian legends. When Arielle and Luke start checking out the land, each for their own reasons, they discover there may be more hiding then they realize. Someone else is very interested in the hill and will stop at nothing to find what they are looking for. Can Luke and Arielle come to a solution that will make them both happy. Can they find out what else might be hidden on the hill?

I have read all the books in this series and this one is my favorite. It is not only about two people finding their true love but it is about connections... connections to the past, connections to family, and connections to Mother Earth. The story is a captivating one as we watch Luke and Ari find themselves on opposite sides regarding the destruction of a piece of property at Barefoot Bay. There is suspense, there is intrigue, there is love, there are hot love scenes.... all the elements of a good romance story. Roxanne has done herself and her fans proud with this one!

Luke McBain is running on Barefoot Bay when he literally mows down Arielle Chandler. She has a spiritual side, from her Grandma Good Bear, so was this sign from the Universe because she never felt this way before? Ari learns Luke is to destroy a piece of property to build a house. Thinking it could have something to do with her Native American Heritage, Ari will protect it at all cost which finds Ari and Luke on opposite ends.
Ari knew immediately Luke was “the one,“ though it took him a while to sense that. They discover a treasure on the property, however, Luke did not understand some of the things Ari told him. Luke did agree to ensure everything was in order before he proceeded on the property. At that point, strange things began to happen so they began working together for the truth. Someone else is very interested in this property and will stop at nothing to get what they want.
Despite all this plus Ari fighting him all the way, Luke cannot ignore the sparks of passion. He lived years as a mercenary warrior which impacted his life and love. When he really listened to her, things started making sense.
Two people find love but it more about the connections surrounding them and what they “feel” in their gut. They mesh well together but the story also has suspense. I was not sure how much I liked it because of the spiritual aspect but was won over by the ending. This can be read as a stand-alone.

"Barefoot in Pearls" by Roxanne St. Claire is part of her 'Barefoot Bay Brides' series. This book can be read alone or better yet as part of her series. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and it is a little more than just a romance story. There is mystery, greed, and yes---love too. Roxanne does it again with a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

Arielle Chandler, Ari to her friends, is unique in her own way. She is part Native American and grew up learning some of her culture from her Shamen Grandmother Good Bear. Luke McBain is not only the brother of one of her friends in the Barefoot Brides business, but also contracted to work on a home which has ties to history. He literally runs into Arielle as he is jogging right before the wedding of his sister.

The spark between Arielle and Luke is there from the beginning. So much that Ari tells him the he is 'the one.' Luke has no idea what she is talking about at first but as they get to know each other he figures out that she means he is the one she is supposed to meet and marry. The relationship is fraught with obstacles as you read their story. Mostly from Luke who has demons in his past which has made him celibate the last few years. Then we have Ari who promised her Grandma that she would not just sleep around with just any man and wait for 'the one.' We have two people who are attracted to each other but are bound by their past. Bring in also the fact that the house Luke is working on has many secrets. One of which involves finding a gold bar in among the walls of the house, quite by accident, and people outside who know that the house is hiding a possible gold mine.

This story - part of the Barefoot Bay series - has it all: romance, true love, friendship, mystery and intrigue, and the strength of ties to family and heritage. Luke and Ari are about as unlikely a couple as you could ever meet. Ari is mystical, and her beliefs about life and love are firmly rooted in her Native American heritage. She believes in the power of fate, and relies on her intuition to guide her decisions. Luke is a 'just the facts, ma'am" kind of guy. If it isn't right there in black and white, if it isn't something concrete that he can weigh and measure, then it isn't real. Which is why he is thrown for a loop when he runs into Ari - literally - on a mountain trail, and the feelings that rush through him are as unexpected as they are impossible to deny. Luke carries with him the scars of a painful past. Ari brings an open and accepting heart. She knows in an instant that he's The One she has waited for her entire life. But even her own confidence in her intuition begins to falter when Luke doesn't seem to share that sense of recognition. If he was really the person she's destined to love, wouldn't he feel it too?

Sparks fly as Ari and Like discover that they have more at odds than their romantic destiny. For reasons he can't explain, Luke needs to make a success of the construction project he's been hired for. But Ari has just discovered that the ground under the planned construction site might well have historical significance, as an archeological site holding Native American artifacts. And it soon becomes apparent that someone else has high stakes on what happens to the land, and will do whatever it takes to use it for their own ends. And Ari and Luke have more to lose than just their hearts. . .
