How to Prepare

1) Open: Gently knead the pouch to separate pasta. Tear to vent prior to cooking.

2) Heat: Microwave for 60 seconds. Caution: Steam in pouch will be hot. Use cool touch zones when handling; or on Stove: pour pasta and 2 tsp. of olive oil in skillet. Stir 2-4 minutes until heated.

3) Add: Your favorite ingredients and enjoy!

Note: Refrigerate leftovers and use within 2 days of opening. Do not use pouch to reheat.

Instructions:

1. Sauté veggies in 2 tablespoons of olive oil until slightly browned.

2. Tear corner of Ready Pasta pouch to vent, heat in microwave for 60 seconds.

3. Toss pasta, veggies, basil and cheese in a bowl.

Prep time: 2 min.

Cook time: 3 min.

Total time: 5 min.

1 cup frozen veggie mix
1 cup peas
2 tbsp. Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese

Weeknight Chicken Pasta with Leeks & Tomatoes

Instructions:

1. In a large skillet heat the olive oil over medium-high heat then add the leek and cook for 2 minutes.

2. Add the chicken and tomatoes and sauté for 3-4 minutes or until heated through and tomatoes start releasing their juice; season with salt and pepper.

3. Cook pasta according to the directions then combine with the sauce, serve and enjoy!

Prep time: 3 min.

Cook time: 7 min.

This Is a Fabulous Idea in Need of Improvement

I love the idea of this where you can have hot pasta in just 60 seconds via the microwave. Sadly, it is in big need of improvement.

I have two different microwaves (a Whirlpool and a Panasonic). So, I can conduct multiple tests.

I tried the Penne and the Gemelli. Both results identical. A lot of the pasta cooked in the bag comes out darker colored/overcooked.

OK, so I shortened the 60-second cooking time which helped, but then the pasta was not hot enough.

As soon as the microwave starts you hear popping sounds coming from the bag. And again, in either microwave, the results were disappointing. It's as if there is no way to keep some of the pasta from overcooking.

The alternative: Do not heat the pasta in the bag. Pour out the pasta first into a microwaveable bowl. Then put the bowl in the microwave for 45 to 60 seconds.

OK, so now that I solved the heating problem, how is the taste? Well, when I tasted it when heated in the bag, I did not like the taste. After cooking it in a microwaveable bowl, the taste is better but not even close to the quality taste when cooking pasta the old fashioned way in a pot of boiling water.

The taste is certainly acceptable, especially if you're covering it with great sauce or butter or cheese or flavoring. And if you really want pasta cooked in 60 seconds or less, this will certainly work well. I just wish they had found a way to make this "Ready Pasta" equal to traditionally-cooked pasta.

(Please note that you can heat this pasta in a pan or pot over the stove with some olive oil. I did not try it this way.)

I love this pasta. Okay, I'm not a pasta expert, but this "Barilla Fully Cooked Ready Pasta" worked for me. It shortens meal preparation a bit and that's what I'm looking for. I tried the penne and have made so far pasta with meat sauce, shrimp scampi, and a cold vegetable pasta salad. I just cook the pasta in the microwave and thus do away with boiling water to cook the pasta and the dirty dishes involved.

Paying Barilla for Water

We're both disabled and use walkers to get around. Moving a pot of boiling water from the stove to the sink to drain is, not only dangerous but also terrifying. When I saw this product I thought it was going to be a life saver. I looked at the description and saw each bag was 8.5oz and we get a two full meals out of a pound of pasta from the grocery store so I thought, wrongly, we could easily get one meal per bag. Then I realized we were paying Barilla for their water. A full bag is just a little too much for a serving of pasta if all you're having is pasta (we're don't make elaborate meals) so we needed to use two bags to get a meal. That makes this too expensive even for the convenience. But read on to see why cost is irrelevant.

Then there's the product itself. First impression; this isn't penne, penne is much larger and what's with the color? This looks nothing like the pasta we cook on the stove. It's kinda scary and reminds me of pasta left out for a day or two. Taste wasn't great, there was a strange aftertaste and it was incredibly chewy like very undercooked pasta. And I have to say neither of our stomachs is happy now about an hour after eating this product. There's four more bags in the box, they're going in the trash.

This has nothing to do with my rating, the product deserves what's given, but it's worth mentioning: Check your expiration date. The product I received expires two weeks from the delivery date. But that's just a stocking issue. It's a wet product, I wouldn't trust it much past the expiration date. There's just two of us here, we aren't going to use an entire box in two weeks. I had hoped to get some time out of this product but now, that's irrelevant. We won't be buying more or even using the remaining bags.

Really liked it. Cooked it the one minute, then dumped a can of chili over it in a bowl, with diced onions, and shredded cheese. And then nuked the entire mixture another minute and a half to heat the added ingredients. Made a really good meal. Giving boxes of this to two elderly friends who also live alone and don't like to do a lot of complicated cooking anymore. For folks like us, this is a perfect product.

The rotini was FANTASTIC. Follow the directions exactly: 1) Kneed/mix the bag contents gently. 2) Tear at indicated location about half an inch to vent. 3). 60 Seconds in microwave with bag standing up properly (I had to correct the base form after I kneaded it).

I let it sit about 60 seconds as I warmed up some refrigerated sauce we had in stock.

Combined the two, mixed and added some parmesan. Was delicious and mess free!

FYI I do not recommend wearing a white shirt when eating pasta with red sauce.
