Editorial Reviews

Review

I was really impressed with this book, "BarkingMadness" by Ryan Hill. It had an amazing plot, and overall the writing is good. But there are some issues. The good part was that this is an excellent noveloverall, even though it is quite lengthy, it had a riveting plot andinteresting storylines. The descriptions were vivid, and the conversations feltnatural. I was surprised by a lot of things, and felt invested. Overall I really did enjoy this book and wouldread more from this author. He has a natural gift for crafting a well-thought outstory and developing interesting, flawed, memorable characters. (4 stars) KarenMatthews--Goodreads, Indie Book Reviewers

Wow, I really loved BarkingMadness!  I thought it was well-written(a few minor editing things but nothing too major) and kept my attention from beginningto end - no easy feat considering the epic length of this novel!  There seems to be something of almosteverything... danger, mystery, thriller, paranormal, action, romance, teenangst....It wasn't cliché or predictable, and I thought for the most part thepacing and prose was solid. (A bit of a slow start, but then it picks up...)Probably best suited for the 16 and over crowd, and although it's technically aYA (young-adult) book, I can see older adults enjoying this as well. From the Back Cover

"Barking Madness" by Ryan Hill isone awesome book that I will not soon forget! Wow, some parts still literallysend chills up my spine, and even though I literally had NO idea what the bookwas about (the description is really vague), as the story began to unfold andbecome clear where it was going, I was like, "YES!!!"  so much awesome! The story flowed well, andthe author writes very authentically, like how teens really act and talk... Doesa great job of making us feel like we are really a part of the story, and I can'twait to read more from Mr. Hill in the future. Recommend for fans ofthriller/suspense/fantasy/paranormal. (4-5 stars) Claire Middleton- Goodreads,Indie Book Reviewers

This book was crazy good! I feellike at first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, because it takes a whileto warm up to some of the characters, and get used to the alternating Points ofView (the story is told from both Mike's and Rose's perspectives). But once Igot into the groove, I really got lost in this exciting, intricate world that RyanHill created. Even though the story idea itself is a familiar one, he brings afresh voice and really makes the story all his own. Although I question theneed to have it be so long, especially for a book billed as being "YoungAdult", I think the story was atmospheric and addicting. When I finished Ialmost wished there was more! A must read for fans of YA fantasy/adventure. (5stars) Anabella Johnson - GoodReads, Indie Book Reviewers

This was the first book I've readby this young author Ryan Hill, but I certainly hope it's not the last! He hasa gift for writing descriptive and life-like scenes that make us feel like we arereally there inside the minds of the characters experiencing the action, asopposed to it all just being "told" to us, as so many rookie authors make themistake of doing. I like that this book didn't feel stale or derivative, butinstead like a new niche of paranormal/suspense that serves well to helpdiversify a somewhat cookie-cutter genre these days (in my opinion). Overallthe entire novel was one that I thought was well-crafted and delivered in theend. There are many complex subplots woven throughout and while this is apretty long book, it was thoroughly enjoyable and very well written. (4-5stars) Jenna Brewster- Goodreads, Indie Book Reviewers

Well this book took me quite awhile to read, but in the end I'd say it was worth it! I like how everythingcame together, and I had a great time reading this unusual book! I think thestorylines were original enough to keep my attention, and even though thecharacters were kind of annoying at times, they felt real and not contrived.Huge bonus. Ryan Hill writes very descriptively and strong, where I felt like Iwas almost like watching a movie or something. Overall a fascinating, almostsurreal novel that pushes the boundaries of typical YA literature. Recommend. (5stars) Brenda Maxwell--GoodReads, Indie Book Reviewers
