"My new obsession: BARKUS! A perfect beginning chapter book to help independent readers to build confidence--with fun short, interconnected stories detailing the ebullient adventures of a girl and her dog. Boutavant imbues Barkus with a distinct (and precisely canine) personality--a raised ear here, a blissful leap there--and matches the cheerful stories with bright, sunny colors. Guaranteed to leave readers with a smile and longing for Book 2! And possibly, probably wanting a Barkus of their own."--Hannah DeCamp, Avid Bookshop

Why I love it?
It is reasonably long - 45 pages. A quality read with your child without either of you getting bored.
It is perfect for young advanced readers because it doesn't have any questionable subject matter (no bullying, no back-talking, no romantic stuff).
Super cute and sweet along the lines of Henry and Mudge, Annie and Snowball, etc.
My daughters are 4 and 6 and they loved it.
