I have always dreaded fish oil. For medical purposes I take a higher-than-usual amount of EPA (approximately 2 grams; a double dose of this product contains 1820mg which is close enough for me), and thus far actually getting it into me has been an annoying and frustrating problem. I've spent a painful amount of money on half a dozen Very Expensive Name Brand fish oils that were supposedly flavored but for me it was just lemon or orange flavored fish. Yuck. I just cannot get past the taste/smell of fish that coats my throat and refreshes the flavor with every burp, just in case I might have, by some chance, forgotten it. Picked up a children's fish oil gummie product - would have had to chew up ten of the little buggers to get my daily dose, but price-wise I could have managed it - but the fishiness was so strong that I couldn't even get one into my mouth, how they expect a typical picky-ish kid to gnaw on them is a puzzle to me. I have a digestive disorder that causes my stomach to empty very slowly, so the so-called "odorless" or "burp-free" capsules that rely on getting into the small intestine before they break down hang around in my stomach and cause those nauseating, dragon-breath-inducing fishy burps. (To add insult to injury, they're usually either big enough to choke a horse or you have to take a handful of the darn things.) I have taken my fishy-tasting fish oils back to stores and asked clerks who take fish oil to smell/taste them for spoilage - although how they would ALL be rancid I have no idea - and have been assured that they were perfectly fine, I simply seem to be hypersensitive to the taste. I don't know what it is, no matter what form it's in, liquid or pills, fish oil makes me burp.Read more ›
UPDATE: Alright, I just finished my first bottle and started another and this new one does have a more fish taste to it. Not unbearable but noticable, so I can understand how some are getting more fish tasting batches than others and coming away with different impressions of it. I still prefer this over the more overt tasting product but I think it may be a bet from bottle to bottle.
Thanks for writing. Yes, this would be just fine as we don't ship refrigerated to consumers or to our retailers. The product would need to be heated to over 300 degrees F to start to break down. I hope this helps best of health!
