NOTE: I also purchased, the Barnett cocking rope, Barnett lube wax, Barnett xbow case, Barnett xbow sling, Barnett Gamecrusher Broadheads, and the Morrell Yellow Jacket bag target.
Get a rope cocking device. You will need one. Don't kid yourself. You aren't that tough. Plus, you don't really want string wax all over your hands every time you cock it. Adjust the handles for the proper rope length, cut the rope and mark which side is left and/or right so you don't need to guess everytime you cock it.
Get some real string wax, not the greasy kid stuff that comes for lubing the rails. Textite is good. Wax the strings every 200 shots. Lube the rails with the greasy kid stuff every five shots. No kidding.
Get a target designed for crossbows. You will need one. Don't waste your time (and money) destroying arrows with an insufficient target. They will go right through it and will eventually ruin the arrow and/or rip the fletchings completely off. I recommend the BigShot Iron Man Travel and Discharge Target, 14x14x7-Inch. Works like a charm. Only 40 bucks.
The Jackal crossbow has almost no recoil. Shoots accurately with the red dot scope between 10 and 40 yards, more or less. It will travel beyond 40 yards straight but will need some major elevation compensation. Powerful enough to hit at 50 hards, but it probably won't kill a deer beyond 50 yards even if you were a good enough shot. You won't need a scope if you're closer than 10 yards.
Trigger is perfect. Auto safety is nice and easy to use.
