A noticeable improvement over the cooler looking and cheaper Tomcat bow is this bow uses real bow string and not a plastic coated cable. This up-feature allows the addition of the peep sight mentioned above. Whats more, it is served around the nocking area which allows you to tie on a "d" loop and to use real arrows.
The stock picture you see on this page is a bare bow which it is not. It comes with a cheap but workable fiber optic sight and a quiver to hold the 3 included arrows. In essence, it looks decked out like dads bow.
3 modules for draw length adjustment are also included for a narrow but workable adjustment of 23-25" or so, and she is right in the sweet spot for that.
The bow is adjusted for it's lightest draw weight and it still flings em pretty good. I imagine with it cranked up to 30 lbs it will really let them fly. In other words, she will be using this for at least another 2 or 3 years or so. When that time comes she will inherit her sister's Bear Badge.
To put it into perspective, the bow was $90, plus $20 new sights, $20 whisker biscuit, $5 peep, $20 trigger, $30 new arrows, $5 field tips puts this package at about $200 before you can get the most out of it. This is right around the price of a used adult bow package.
Now, about tuning it. Peep sight installation was a pain because the bowstring is wound very tightly. This light poundage bow did not like brass nocks, the weight has a significant impact on arrow speed because it is such a light bow. Just do D-loop by itself. Tried a bunch of arrows including wooden, fiberglass, and aluminum of various length. Could not get anything to work right on this bow. Arrows fletching kept going low left consistently on paper test. Checked alignment with of cam, and find that they are a bit off. Had to perform yoke tuning on the upper cam to align it. (did not need press, just took off one side at a time to add/remove twists). Finally found the best arrow for it. The Easton Fall Stalker 1916 bought online at Dicks. Cut it down to 26" with a 100 grain field tip.Read more ›
I ordered this cheap whisker biscuit, as it makes it much easier to hold the arrow in place. I highly recommend this addition, especially for a total beginner or child. The bow already has a screw and hold to install the whisker biscuit. There are more expensive varieties but I wanted something basic and this one fits the bill.
Medium Arrow Rest Right and Left Hand - Black
12 additional 28 inch arrows.
2 24 inch paper targets.
