I wish the promo material for this product focused on what it does really well: getting food hot enough to eat. "Cook Without Fire!" is misleading; heating packs don't produce enough heat to actually cook most food--e.g., you couldn't boil vegetables or safely cook raw meat--the heating packs offer neither sufficient temperature nor duration for actually cooking. This product won't replace your gas/alcohol/wood stove.
What it DOES do is offer a very convenient way to rehydrate freeze-dried food and to warm cooked food to where it's hot enough to enjoy. I've rehydrated Mountain House meals with this--worked great! Food was hot enough to burn my tongue at first. I've also warmed left-overs during a lunch break at work--nice to enjoy a hot lunch from a lunch box.
Build quality is great and so far the heating characteristics seem to be pretty consistent. It's not the cheapest way to warm food or rehydrate freeze-dried meals but it is very convenient. The lid snaps securely onto the inner stainless pan--offering a nice way to keep leftover food secure until you get back home. Then just include in a dishwasher run and you're good to go again.
