You can toss cut fruit slices with lemon or orange juice to prevent discoloration during drying, but "citrus" and "citric acid" are not quite the same thing! What I actually needed was a product containing ascorbic acid. A good one is Ball® Fruit-Fresh Produce Protector, which you can find in grocery stores (in the canning aisle), or at Amazon.
As I learned from Wikipedia, citric acid is used to flavor or preserve foods and beverages, to stand in for lemon juice in recipes, to soften water, to make fizzy bath bombs, and to remove lime scale, among other things. I'll probably use my citric acid to make lemonade: you can dissolve it in cold water and add sugar to taste.
Interesting fact - it makes water taste like lemon juice. If you put this stuff, sugar, and water together, it seriously tastes exactly like store bought lemonade. This shouldn't be surprising since it is CITRIC acid after all, but I was just impressed with how citrus-y it was rather than just acid-y.
I was like "sugar, water, and citric acid... this is like the most basic flavor ever, right? This will taste like nothing, right?". Wrong. It tastes like lemonade.
When you start adding other flavors the lemonyness gets lost, but just know you can make a pretty mean clear lemonade with this stuff.
This package has enough citric acid for about 4 cleaning cycles.

The product could be good, I don't know but the picture is deceiving you only get 4 ounces where for a couple of bucks more you can get 2 pounds for another seller.Published 8 months ago by Joseph M
Great product, great value! This tastes like all the other citric acid brands that I have purchased before. It has a nice powdery texture and isn't clumpy. I'll purchase agin!Published 9 months ago by Chris A.
small amount! I should have read the amount (which sometimes I forget), but I was shocked to see how little goes a long way! I use it in the washing machine and it does the job.Published 10 months ago by Beth
