I grew up on a diet of Star Trek and Dr. Who, fell in love with Asimov's Foundation and Clarke's Rama, got blown away by David Brin's fiercely-alien aliens and Iain Banks spectacular mindships, admired the edginess of Neal Asher's Polity characters and the darkness of Orson Scott Card's Ender and Bean, am continually impressed by Jack McDevitt's pace and story-telling, and Alastair Reynolds and Peter Hamilton's superb space opera choreography. I like reading and writing fast-paced, intelligent scifi where the characters leave their footprints in space, and the plot is nothing short of galactic.
But while writing is fun, getting published is tough and has been a hard road. Still, I have four books out there now, and I'm already working on the next two. I love science fiction, and will never stop loving it, because a world where we can't dream and explore is not one I want to live in.
