Bashful is an angsty, yet frustrating read, that had me wanting to pull my hair out at times, yet rooting for these to at the same time. Callie has been in love with Bash for years, but he's the one she can't have, and to make matters worse, he sends her so many mixed signals it's not even funny. Every time Callie tries to move on, it's like BAM Bash is back and making it difficult for her to move forward and forget about him and to just leave him in the "friend zone". Bash on the other hand didn't do a great job of making his feelings known towards Callie, and he was on and off with how he treated her, which was so frustrating to not only her but me as the reader. I wanted to scream at him, but at the same time, when all was revealed, I was like "aww, that's so sweet, I get it now".
Not only did I adore Bash and Callie, but the secondary characters as well. Ellie and Tucker, the best friends in this book are hilarious and so supportive to both of these two. They played an integral part in this book and also helped with the humor as well.
For a debut novel, this book was beautifully written, and the story flowed great. I adored the characters, and was so happy we got an epilogue that gave us closure to the story! If you're looking for a new adult novel that has angst, humor and a bit (well a lot) of drama, I suggest picking up Bashful by Lo Brynolf today!
Now all she has to do is figure out how to pretend to have feelings for him, while pretending not to have feelings for him, while actually having feelings for him. The fate of their friendship depends on it.
First of all, I kind of like taking a chance on new authors, but I still manage to be surprised when a debut novel is just this good. The tone for this off-beat romantic comedy is set right from the start where we find out that Bash, the object of Callie's affection isn't at all likely to return those affections, well, because she's really, really, not his type.
Of course while that sets the scene for all kinds of awkwardness and hilarity, it really does leave the reader wondering how a romance that starts on that note could possibly have a happy ending, but Lo Brynolf manages to work some clever stagecraft to produce a story that is captivating, entertaining and more than a little funny.
After a debut like this, I for one am looking forward to seeing what she's got up her sleeve next.
Friends Callie and Bash are brought back into each others lives through the stage. The more they spend time together though the harder it gets for Callie to ignore her heart. She must decide if it's time for the curtains to be drawn closed on her feelings or if she should put a spotlight on them.
What can I say about these two? I admired Callie's drive and quirkiness. Bash was swoon worthy and always so genuine which I enjoyed. I loved them so much! They had such an awesome bond that I couldn't get enough of. Their banter was priceless. I wasn't sure what all was going to happen with them but I couldn't wait to find out! I adored the secondary characters as well and what all they brought to the story.
I'm still over here wishing I was Bash's sweets! 😍 Ms.Brynolf is definitely an author to watch! I can't wait to read what she comes up with next! (:
Congratulations Lo Brynolf you just rocked the hell out of your debut novel and I am so extremely proud of you!!!!
I can't wait to see what else Brynolf writes for us in the future. With this as her debut, I'm excited to see what she is able to do as she grows as an author.
Bash has just returned after being in Europe for two years but when they are cast as the stars in their college play the fun really begins!
I enjoyed the debut novel from this author as the characters draw you in and the secondary characters are a hoot. Although there is humor and laughs galore there is so much more to this story. I look forward to see what this author comes up with next.

this book was really not for me.
I found the hole plot/misunderstand really annoying, it’s something that could of been resolved in one question. It doesn’t really get explained of why Callie has this impression to cause the misunderstanding and considering they are meant to be “bestfriends”. There friendship in the story doesn’t feel like they are bestfriends it’s very surface level.
The misunderstanding drags to long.
This was mainly in Callie’s POV (you get a couple of chapters in Bash’s POV bear the end) and I found her really annoying and her other bestfriend/room mate was annoying as-well, I thought she came across immature.
Bashful is a wonderful, adorable slow burn romance that I never wanted to end. A crazy misunderstanding made this book the slow burn that it was and just when I was thinking I’d love to get Bash’s point of view of these circumstances Lo delivered. Alternating male and female chapters are usually my favourite but I really loved how this book was mostly from Callie’s POV with just a few pivotal chapters from Bash’s. That was such a treat!
As adorable as this book was there was also a darker element that was handled really appropriately.
Bashful was everything I didn’t know I was looking for. It was so refreshing to read a book with genuinely lovely characters finding their way to each without outside factors trying to keep them apart. I am here for the low angst books.
Lo, you just became my newest automatic 1-click author!
The banter and sarcasm in it was exactly what I needed right now with a few twists along the way
Can’t wait to see what she puts out next!
