the smell doesnt smell bad to me, but it also doesnt really smell like basil to me either. its just got something weird about it that makes it a little funky. i still use it just fine, but my boyfriend hates the way it smells and says it "stinks up the bathroom" for hours after my baths.
also, im sure this is just user error on my part, but i think the first time i used it i put too much in the bathwater and i soon realized as i was standing in the water that i was having a really painful skin reaction to it where my legs were bright red and tingling/burning. wasnt fun. totally panicked the first time. it doesnt have any dosing instructions on the bottle, but now that ive used it more often i do two drops in a bathtub and that works fine with no problems.
i do have sensitive skin also, so thats just a general warning out there to anyone else who does.
either way for the money, i wish id have picked a different scent or brand (or wished i had returned it within the time limit) because something is just really weird about this one.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when receiving this. The bottle had leaked all over the package in transit. Luckily all of my other items were packaged securely and with the exception of a strong "basil" scent, they shouldn't be ruined. The only packaging around the oil was some bubble wrap, so there was no protection from it leaking on the other items in my order. Also, the basil scent has a very strong anise/black licorice scent opposed to the smell of a basil plant as I was expecting, but upon more research, this is typical of basil essential oils. I will most likely combine it with something else to try to cover up the licorice scent. The reason I switched to a diffuser was because Burt's bees discontinued their basil wax melts, so I was excited to get my home smelling like I just walked into Whole Foods again. I'm going to have to shop around and see if there's something else out there that fits the bill.
