Yes she went through hell as a child and a young wife but when she came to Jessie's store begging for a job she found love and family.
This book was about healing and what women go through for their children.
There's the love that a great man feels for a woman. Dan knew he wanted Nora and he aimed to claim her no matter what or who he had to fight to get her.
There's also the secrets and pain Nora and Lynn had to share to heal, not be afraid, grow and love.
This was a I can't put it down books for me. I have read and own quite a few of Mrs London's books. She a favorite of mine for sure and always will be.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters and the story are well developed. The storyline is different from anything I've read before. The book is fairly long, but it uses that space for character and plot development, so it can fully tell Nora and Dan's story. There are many parts to the story, because it also includes part of Jessie and Virgil's story and introduces Lynn and Max, a young woman and her 3 year old son who are running from an abusive husband. It was a joy for me to witness the change in Nora's temperament as she begins developing relationships with Lynn, Dan, as well as trying to rebuild relationships with her own sons, Josh and Zach. I also enjoyed the element of suspense woven into the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys women's fiction that could actually be based on a true story, where everything isn't all roses, sunshine, and unicorns. A plus for me was that there was only a small amount of bad language, and no graphic sexual situations. I would definitely read the rest of the books in this series.
The Basket Maker’s Wife is set in a contemporary small town in the Ozark area, a town like a million others across middle America. It is a ‘country’ sort of book, my favorite kind. It is in the romantic suspense genre, with fantasy elements, but I think it goes beyond genres in all directions. At heart it is a story of women helping women and the men who love them. It is about abuse of women, abusive fathers and husbands, so very common in our world–far more common than society even now in this ‘open’ age talks about. It is about the foolish things men and women do, the damage we do ourselves with our own mistakes, and our own hurts. And it is about the challenge and daring to reach out for second chances, to believe in the good, and that we are never alone but people all around us, as well as those we cannot see, stand ready to help.
