AJ Richardson, the hero of Harris's raucous latest, has been the secret boyfriend of NBA star Drayton Jones for seven years. AJ is only too happy to keep their relationship under wraps—after all, with European trips and spending sprees financed by Dray, what's there to complain about? But when gold-digger Judi Ledbetter nets Dray and his fat wallet, things get tricky. Soon, they're married, Judi gets pregnant, and she's gunning to drive AJ out of Dray's life permanently. Blackmail, intrigue and double-crosses round out this fun little romp. (Jan.)

You are sorely missed, Mr. Harris. may you rest in peace.
Aldridge "AJ" Richardson and Drayton "Dray" Jones have been secret lovers since AJ tutored Dray in Algebra back in college. Dray goes on to have a successful NBA career and AJ is still in his life, as a secret of course. Dray can't imagine his family or teammates finding out he is gay. So AJ goes along with keeping the relationship a secret, even when Dray takes a wife to quiet questions about his relationship with AJ. Aj deals with it becasue he loves Dray and Dray takes very good care of AJ financially. AJ happily follows Dray around the country just to make his "man" happy.
Unfortunately, there is someone who knows about AJ and Dray and they will stop at nothing to either get paid or expose the sordid affair of a married NBA star and his gay lover.
This book is 100 % a must read and a compelling story about love and how far someone will go to keep secrets.
I was looking for a scandal and a scorcher and found it in this book. The relationship between AJ and Dray had all of that and a plot loaded with twists and turns thrown in. I got sucked into their relationship right away and couldn't put the book down.
Mr. E. Lynn Harris, your creative writing style gets better every time! Did I mention hilarious? There were several times when I couldn't contain myself and laughed my head off. Seriously, I laughed hard and had moments when I felt like I wanted to cry just as hard. I liked the style of this story. No trash novel here, E. Lynn Harris is doing a fine job of telling a story and keeing it fresh, hot and real. All I can tell you without ruining the experience is that this is a story between two people and it is intense, provocative and riveting. And that's "real talk."
I don't usually read the same author back to back, but I've got another E. Lynn Harris novel waiting for me and I can't wait to get to it. Tyler Perry, I hope you are reading this because I envision this novel as a screenplay and a Tyler Perry production!
In the first pages we learn that Aldridge and Dray are a couple, have been for many years, since college actually, before the NBA and the fame and the money and the societally-driven need to slam the closet door shut and bolt it tight. Soon--and, in the prophetic words of Benjamin Franklin, "Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead"--Dray's secret is uncovered by parties unknown with blackmail on the brain. What ensues is a virtual soap opera of drama, with true E. Lynn flair, which left me exhausted and smiling and craving a cigarette in the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this romp, and for me it harks back to the E. Lynn we all met in his earliest novels. However, it's a must-read for fans old and new. With this title, E. Lynn Harris has achieved something no other African American author has to date--10 straight New York Times Best Sellers! Huge kudos are in order. Huge! ~ Taylor Siluwé, author of Dancing With The Devil
