About the author

Parker S. Huntington is a stay-at-home dog mom from SoCal, where she discovered her allergy to rain. In spite of her shoddy attendance record and strong aversion to homework, she earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside and an A.L.M. in Literature from Harvard. When she's not writing or exchanging food pics with her friends, she's binge-watching an unhealthy amount of Netflix while curled up with her dogs.
Parker hates talking about herself and is (also) allergic to social media, but you can catch up with her in her newsletter at www.parkershuntington.com. Occasionally, she'll post a TikTok video, which you can find at @parkershuntington.

Bastiano Romano was all set to propose to Elsa, engagement ring and everything, regardless of the trouble he knew he would get from his father. Elsa wasn’t royal, nor was she mafia – but by the time his father found out, the deed would be done. He headed to the Empire State Building and Lewis greeted him, trying to tell him something. But Bastiano fired off questions to him about the chef being there, everything set up and running smooth, so Lewis could not give him his important information. So as he stepped out of the elevator, his father and Elsa stood before him! His father reminded him of duty and left. Elsa stood there with guilt all over her face. He told Lewis to tell the Senator he would attend his function after all, and he sat down to eat his dinner, waiting for Elsa to explain whatever betrayal had occurred. He snatched a crumbled paper from her hand and saw the check for $5 million signed by his father. Then he threw the $16 million engagement ring he had bought her over the side of the Empire State Building.
Ariana’s life is anything but simple. Her identity has always been hidden – but she is a DeLuca, which no one knows about except one person in the FBI. She has the strength to stand up to Bastiano and it gets his attention. She won’t back down – she’s just what he needs. Will the two connect? Will she help him get over the betrayal that tore him up? Or will she run to keep herself safe?
Amazing book, amazing writing. You won’t forget this one for a long time. Be sure to get a copy and be as amazed as everyone else who has read this book. The whole series is incredible, and this one holds a piece of the author as well. Outstanding job!
When he first met Ariana DeLuca he wasn’t very nice towards her because it was easier and less complicated for him than admitting that he could be attracted to her. He had been hurt in the past (blindsided actually), so he was guarded and wasn’t going to just give his heart away to the next gorgeous creature that walked through the door.
Ariana was gorgeous, sweet, smart, sexy. She had her own demons though. Her mother was the mistress of Angelo DeLuca, crime boss, and a vicious monster. When her mother found out she was pregnant with his child she fled. He never knew that Ariana existed and Ariana wanted to keep it that way.
Ariana’s job takes her undercover as a bartender and Bastiano is her boss. Ariana pushed all his buttons. He didn’t see her coming. He challenged her every step of the way and she would go right back at him. He liked that she stood up to him but he would never admit that to her.
Their chemistry was undeniable, passionate, sizzling and so intense. They both wanted to believe that there was no connection between them… Bastiano, because she was his employee and he didn’t want to cross that line, been there and done that. Ariana, because he wasn’t part of her plans, she wasn’t looking for love, she was just doing her job. So she thought.
Ariana and his little sister, Contessa, become very close and Bastiano sees the strong connection they have. He begins to see her in a different light and realizes that she really is a good person and finally admits to himself that he is falling for her.
They have a sexual encounter at the restaurant. Then things start to really heat up from there.
My heart broke for him so many times throughout this book. He really pulled at my heart strings. I laughed at times, and cried other times. I didn’t want the book to end. That’s what Parker Huntington does to you. Her books are all too consuming. You can’t forget about the characters after you’ve read the book. His character left such a strong presence with me. I ended up reading the book a second time. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
I now have read all of the 5 Syndicate series books that Parker Huntington wrote. I. LOVED. THEM. ALL! Bastiano, however, was my favorite hunk of all of the guys and his story was my favorite in the series. Another great, great write and read by Parker Huntington. I don’t know how she does it but I hope she continues doing it for many years to come. Looking forward until her next book comes out.

I have to admit I cried at a couple of points, 1. The dedication - just read it and you’ll know why. 2. When Ari and Vince have a sit-down. I had my suspicions about him that turned out to be right - I didn’t guess the depth of it all, but some of it. I love being able to do that, that the author keeps you on your toes and guessing. Parker writes beautifully. I enjoyed every second of it. She gives you enough info to make you intrigued and then feeds you little bits to keep you interested until the big finale. It works so well. I was captivated throughout. These characters are so interesting that you can’t help but want to binge read them. I now need to dive in and read the others in the series…I know, I totally broke my ‘read in order’ rule, but, they are standalones, and I don’t think I ruined anything by reading this one first. I’m just more invested in the others. Why nobody has been shouting at me to read this series is beyond me. I’m not a huge mafia lover and I was in complete love with it. I love the world that Parker has created and although there are different families it is easy to keep track of who is who and their connections.
The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts. It’s almost palpable. They are clearly attracted to each other but they spar almost continuously. And it is fabulous. I couldn’t wait to see what they were going to do next. The fact that Ariana had Bastian’s little sister on her side was such a cute and hilarious aspect. The fact that this big bad guy couldn’t control that. It was perfect. Two words: Unicorn Chair! HAHAHA. The sex, oh my word! Somebody pass me a fan, or a new Kindle because I think mine just melted. Or maybe that was me? With chemistry like this couple had it wasn’t a surprise that the sex was explosive. And for my anal loving fans, they wasted no time getting to that. Which worked so well for the way they were. There was no way Bastian wasn’t going to want ALL of Ariana once he had her, ya know? With that said, each sex scene had a point, it furthered their relationship and the story. It wasn’t sex for sex sake.
Bastian is the type of guy that you love to hate. He’s such an a-hole, but he has his reasons. I think the first chapter was necessary to give insight into why he is the way he is now, and it worked really well because even when you’re mad at him, in the back of your mind you still can’t help but think, yeah, but he has his reasons. Without it, I think I would have liked him a little less…who am I kidding, I loved his a-hole ways! He is broken and watching him heal and become the man he truly is is wonderful. The relationship with his sister is fantastic and it really shows him in another light. I loved Ariana, I loved that she was vulnerable, yet strong and she was not going to take what Bastian was handing out without a fight. I loved seeing her relationship with Tessie. It was the sweetest. I hated how her only friend was a child. I wanted to be her friend. I think we’d be fast buddies. They were the perfect couple. It took them a while to see that you were perfect for each other, but they were. They worked as a counter-balance to each other and made each other think about things in a different way that allowed them to grow.
I love when authors include in their writing things about a bond and love not having to be blood. That’s a subject that comes up in this story and I loved it. I was doing ALL the fist pumps. And I might have made my husband jump with my shout of ‘hell yeah’ - I regret nothing! It was worded so perfectly and you better believe my highlight function was used.
This book has such a good balance of content. It's angsty, but also has lighthearted humourous moments too. It's steamy as all get-out, but emotional too. It has characters you'll love and characters you'll love to hate or hate to love. It'll also make you swoon all the swoons. And that makes for an unputdownable book. This is going on my list of favourite books from 2019 for sure.

Brilliant!
Bastian, emotionally distant. Due to being wronged by his father Gio who paid off Elsa, Bastiano's girlfriend, who took the bribe.
Ariana, is tough. Doesn't back down. But with the last name De Luca people think it's just a name. But she's part of those De Luca's. But those De Luca's and the other families don't know that she exists, thanks to her mother who made sure that they didn't find out about her. Only her 'father figure' at the FBI knows who she is. She's undercover in the Romano family for the FBI.
"I was educated, witty, well-read and gifted, in almost everything I had tried. I looked like I belonged on a goddamed runway in Milan, and in a war of worlds, I knew I could hold my own. Yet, in front of him, my entire existence felt inadequate." ~ Ariana
Bastiano is having trouble containing his emotions when it comes to Ariana. She's well and truly getting under his skin.
"I had always been unflinching. Resolute. It was ingrained in my DNA, passed on from generation to generation by persistent Romano elders, used to either being handed what they wanted or taking with unrelenting force." ~ Bastiano
"Maybe I was being punished for living my life as a miserable jerk."
"Maybe this was the universe's way of punishing me - throwing Ariana De Luca into my life and making it so that I couldn't look away."~ Bastiano
I loved Bastiano and Ariana. And Tessie.
It's true, the Mafia sees and knows all. Even if it's just one of the higher up members. Everything comes together, with patience, faith and fate.
