From Executive Producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights), Bates Motel delves into the twisted relationship between serial killer-to-be, Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore), and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga). A prelude to the classic horror film Psycho, the series takes a contemporary glimpse into Norman's formative years and reveals how he became one of the most infamous murderers of all time.

Fast forward to "The Good Doctor", a second offering from David Shore in his quest to present doctors with really heavy issues. Not to mention Shore's talent for finding British actors who can flawlessly play Americans. There had been "House MD" with its opioid-addicted curmudgeon Dr. Gregory House. And now we've got autistic surgeon Dr. Shaun Murphy. And my own addiction is to the TV procedural drama--be it cops, lawyers or docs. Whichever the profession, I would program my TiVo accordingly. A season of Dr. Murphy made me glad when word came Down From High that it's going to be renewed next year. Which sent me back for a second look at this set, and it's in the pipeline. I want to see how Freddie Highmore developed his shyly boyish Doc Shaun from the template of similarly bashful serial killer Norman Bates.
