On the plus side:
- They look and feel fairly well-made.
- Very comfortable walking in them I normally need cushy insoles for the shoes but these are great the way they are.
- They have some stiffness in them,, meaning some ankle protection.
- They will look good on and off the bike.
- The Vibram sole is awesome.
- The 1.75" heel gives me the extra height I need on the bike.
These boots have all the features I want. Just wish I could try them on before purchase. I'm going to add an insole and wear thicker socks. It will mitigate the size issue. But the true test will be when I wear them riding my bike, as soon as weather allows.
Update: I have worn these boots for a few weeks riding my bike. They are extremely comfortable on and off bike. Recently I went on an overnight trip and the boots worked well as light hiking boots. My feet stayed dry after I crossed a shallow creek. Additional soles and thicker socks take care of sizing issue. The Vibram sole, on the other hand, presents a unexpected problem. They grip really well but once in a while I feel like my left foot is stuck to the foot peg of the bike when I shift. I guess it's just something I need to get used to.
The July temperatures ranged from chilly up in the mountains to hot and humid on the flat, but I didn't ever feel like the boots were "too" hot as some waterproof boots tend to feel. I wore these with a thin knee high sock during this trip, however there is ample room for my thermal socks come cooler weather. The combination of laces and a zip was excellent; the full length lacing system allowed me to get the boots to a comfortable fit with the thickness of sock I was wearing. Once set I didn't mess with the laces for the rest of the trip; just quick in and out through the zip. Between shifting and hiking, the finish across the toes got fairly beaten up, but a quick polish at the end of the trip has brought them up shiny like new again. Overall, I am very happy with the boots and believe they are excellent value for money. Strongly recommend them.
I actually stood just over ankle deep in Lake Superior and no water came in! Broke in fast and no blistering or pain!!

I was afraid these would be bulky like most boots tend to be but surprisingly they were not.Published 14 months ago by AnUn
I was skeptical about ordering a half size smaller because I have had other Bates boots and ordered a 7 that fit perfectly. But I did order a size 61/2 and glad I did! Read morePublished 15 months ago by Marilyn
I walk a lot at work and these are very comfortable, even after a 12 hour day. I wear them with black dress pants and they look good too!Published 20 months ago by jajandesndcats
First - I agree with other reviewers that these are sized a bit off. I am a nine, typically and sometimes 9 1/2. I ordered the 81/2, per other reviewers, and they are spot on. Read morePublished 21 months ago by Amazon Customer
Was very comfortable, very light. Love the heel height (short people problems)!
Downside: I had to get the boot one size smaller. Read more
I ordered this because my brother said he had good luck with these boots, both in the military and as a cop. Read morePublished 24 months ago by Jaclyn Taylor
LOVE these boots!! Wore them for 10 days straight on a motorcycle trip (3,000 miles, 10 states in 10 days!), and had no soreness or pain. Very comfy, light, and sturdy.Published on August 13, 2014 by DeeZane5
After reading other reviews, I expected them to run large. I wear 8, so I ordered 7.5--they fit, enough room for double socks, even.Published on July 28, 2014 by Chari Heuser
