Look out! Many of these reviews are apparently for the colored versions, but I am posting about the Original formula here. This product works wonderfully for me. Other brands? Not so much, because they don't brush out well. Only in comparison to a wet shampoo does Batiste Original lose a star.
My middle aged hair is long, highly varied, and quite healthy since for decades I've done nothing but but wash and cut it. With wispyish bangs, it often gets waist long before I trim off a few inches. It is mostly gray with variations to my original ash "dirty" blonde color. My original hair is super fine and super straight, while the grey has come in a bit thicker and a bit wavy (yay!!). Normally it's just a basic water wash/condition, and I usually let it dry as I commute with the car windows open (aka the "4x45 dryer"; 4 windows, at least partially open, at an average of 45 mph)
Therefore, I need this stuff to work on a wide spectrum of hair all on one head.
READ THE DIRECTIONS and realize that 30cm is almost 12 in. Brush your hair out thoroughly first so you can easily flip sections of it around when you spray. It needs to have no tangles or snags before you spray. If your hair is "stick together" dirty (camping! Hanging out in barns, serious overtime at work, plumbing broke, you are injured, sick, whatever), go slow with it all so as to not pull or damage your hair.
After spraying, swish it all around with your fingertips like you would with a wet shampoo, then brush vigorously under, over, and through. Voilà! For me the entire process takes about five minutes. Cleaning the brush takes an additional minute or two, which for me is just removing the hair in it and tapping any remaining powder out on the edge of a waste basket.
I have not had any problem with powder residue, but then this original is a whitish powder, not brown as used in some of the other reviews. I can't comment on the smell since my sniffer is defective and I smell nothing at all.
My hair can be pretty awful before I use it, maybe once or twice a month? Not on a regular basis anyway. Afterwards, it looks almost fresh washed with water though it still feels a bit dirty. As opposed to a wet shampoo, it seems to be a touch less than ideal clean real close to my roots (I like the old "dry look"). I am guessing is that is because I am limited to just how much a brush can move that close to my scalp and it's not enough to worry about anyway. It ends up nicely fluffed and it moves well.
I would definitely go out for the evening with the results.

This is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have health issues which render me easily tired. Therefore, it is an ordeal for me to wash and style my hair frequently. I had heard of dry shampoo many years ago and forgot about it until recently when I was browsing the web. I decided to try Batiste because it consistently received the best reviews. I love this product. It's taken very little trial and error for me to determine how best to apply it. I first purchased the Batiste clean & classic original variety. After the first application it was clear to me that I would never spray it indoors again. The aerosol and the odor were overwhelming to me. I aired out my bathroom and asked my husband what my hair smelled like. He said the fragrance, once in the hair, is barely detectable unless one is up close and deliberately trying to smell the hair. To me, the odor of the clean & classic original is reminiscent of a cross between laundry detergent (that generic "clean" scent that we've been programmed to recognize) and baby powder - not things I want to smell like. Mercifully, only my bathroom smelled like that after application rather than my hair. So, since that first time, I apply the product while standing outside on the balcony. This is an enormous improvement. I later ordered the Batiste Tropical which smells like coconut which is more pleasant to my senses. The aerosol application is strong, so you'll need to hold the can about a foot (30cm) from the head to apply. Do not over-apply the product. A little goes a long way. You can always apply more, but if you first apply too much, you will get a build up of white powder which will be difficult to remove without washing your hair with water. I apply the product in about eight sections: bangs, either side of face, and then a few shots at the crown and back. You'll only need to depress the pump for a second to get a good blast of product. Massage the product into the scalp with the fingertips and then brush through. I've found that brushing my hair upside down is the best way to distribute the product and also to allow any excess to fall away. I can brush through my hair with the product as easily as I would without - it doesn't make my hair sticky or tangled. Clean your brush of hair and then rinse after each brushing as you will see a buildup of white powder on the brush. (You don't want to brush your hair with a brush full of old, oil saturated power!) Since I've been using Batiste dry shampoo, I've been washing my hair once per week and my hair looks full and clean throughout the week. I've attached a photo of my hair after five days without shampooing, only using Batiste dry shampoo. (I have a bit of grey in my hair - not to be mistaken for product buildup.) This stuff has made my life easier.
