Editorial Reviews

Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city. The score features music composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard.

This score is a great one. They started the current Batman film franchise and got two great composers. This soundtrack definitely has many great songs. This review will give you an idea of what the score sounds like by giving you the details of three of the varied styles found in this soundtrack. "Eptesicus" gives the theme for the Batman Begins film, and has a lot of strings with occasional brass. It builds up from a quiet song into the full fledged Batman theme for the movie. "Lasiurus" is a song that I think reflects on Rha's al Ghul. It has his woodwind theme at the beginning, but moves into a deep, string filled piece. It is very quiet and beautiful music. This soundtrack also has the song "Molossus." This song is for some of the more action packed scenes. It has drums that have an alomst continuous beat, and various other instruments that enter and exit randomly to make it exciting and fast paced. This score gets its five stars for its variety and overall just great themes and music. I recommend this soundtrack to anyone who enjoys Batman or soundtracks in general.

I really enjoyed the score to Batman Begins, from things that made it and things that didn't make it to the CD. There were more bits and cues in the movie that could have made the soundtrack a whole lot more than what it is now. I wanted to see more of Zimmer and Howard.
Perhaps and expanded score will get a release in the future.
Still, nonetheless, I enjoyed the many motifs and themes. Lasirus being my fave.

This music from Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard is excellent. I really enjoyed the movie, and the music was a big part of why it was so good. The price is the best that I could find anywhere, and right now (when this was written) this soundtrack is not even available on ITunes. It is an hour worth of listening, and you will want to listen to it again and again.

This soundtrack is what got me into film music, which eventually led me to the choice of my career - film composing. It's not often that you hear a combination of computer generated music and real musicians in such an artistic and pleasant way. Zimmer really creates the feel of the movie through his music.

I listen to Pandora A LOT because you can create your own channels and listen to a very wide variety of film music. This has drastically expanded my knowledge of film music. One of the first composers that I fell in love with listening is Hans Zimmer. I frequently heard pieces from Batman Begins and every single one I enjoyed. Zimmer has a different style of composing,a hefty use of electronics and some instruments that are not ordinarily considered to be part of orchestral music, and I have come to appreciate it. Buy this album and I am pretty sure you will end up buying all three, just like I did.

I have to say this is probably the best music Hans Zimmer & James Newtown Howard has done (well my opinion), love all their stuff but this tops it all.
This soundtrack however pretty much saids it all and yes it is definately by far the best Batman music to date. It's a mixture of beautiful soft pieces that they have put together (some even that can make you cry) including some incredible action music like Tracks 3 "Myotis", Track no.8 "Antrozous" and Track no.10 "Molossus" and so on.
My favorite would probably be Track no.8 followed by Track 7 "Macrotus".
A worth buying.

I like a score that tells its own tale even without the film accompaniment. Without the film this sounds like background music. I was a little bummed that only a couple tracks really stood out on their own. But I'm still a fan. Corynorhinus is my favorite.

Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful score and Howard/ Zimmerman did a good job. However, there were some musical cues ("I'm Batman" and Batman's final confrontation with Ra's al Goul to name a few) that were glaringly absent. I would recomend "The Dark Knight" score instead.
