For those who purchased a big widescreen TV to watch a big wide screen image you need to know this.
The Batman Blu Ray version was converted to Blu Ray in 1:77 from 4:3,
Or... from TV aspect to widescreen aspect. (rectangular to wide)
When converting, there is the option to merely convert the video to higher number of pixels or convert the entire aspect to higher pixels.
When the 4:3 video aspect is converted to High Definition you get Hi Def video AND blank area which appears black.
When the entire 4:3 aspect is converted to High Definition you get Hi Def video AND Hi Def black bars.
What this means to those who wish to view the show covering their entire screen (Universal Scan) is that all conversions that convert the entire aspect to Hi Def are RESTRICTED to viewing the video in 4:3 only. (black bars on both sides)
This ability or inability to view any movie in "true full screen" depends on your TV and Blu Ray hardware to some extent of course.
The purpose of this message is let you know that the Batman Complete Series DVD version is NOT an entire aspect conversion which allows full screen viewing and the blu ray version does not.
I bought a big widescreen TV to view my movies in big widescreen and find it moronic to watch high definition black bars for any reason when all movies "can" be recorded in proper aspect ratios without "missing" anything.
1:77, 1:78, 1:85, 16X9 instead of 2:35, etc..
