This book collects a one-shot Pennyworth RIP which has some good stories in it, but has an unpleasant feel as at this wake for Alfred, everyone shows up pays tribute to Alfred, rips Bruce Wayne, and walks off. Batgirl comes off as increasingly catty in a way that really has harmed some of her more recent appearances.

The Detective Comics Annual #3 focusing on Pennyworth was actually good and did a good job balancing a decent story with sentiment as an agent from Alfred's past tries to deal with a traitor.

The main storyline involving Two Face is good as it explores that relationship and also leads right into the Joke War.

The Joker War issue featuring Batwoman is pretty good as well. The others from Detective Comics #1027 are a bit more forgettable.

Overall, this is decent. I think the Joker War material has generally been all over the place in terms of quality, but this is some of the best of it with Tomasi turning in another winning volume.

É uma estoria de matar ou morrer.. só que Batman não pode morrer e também não pode matar ou mancharia o que representa. Então é como se os dois corresem pro precipício e na beira ninguém salta nem empurra o outro. Trocam o final prum jogo de tabuleiro onde você tira o ' volte ao início ' e recomeçam. Pra quê essa estória afinal?

Detective comics volume 5 collecting issues #1020-27, detective comics annual 3 and pennyworth RIP

Another decent volume from Tomasi which started off strong with the Alfred tribute issues This clearly takes place after city of bane with the bat family struggling to come to terms with the loss of Alfred, especially Bruce.

It then moves on to an encounter with two-face taking place with the ongoing joker war. This was a good story also, with the alter egos of Harvey dent and two-face clashing more than ever, but ultimately the story lacked flair and had a predictable rhythm that has been evident with detective comics under tomasi. We then see joker reincarnate Lincoln March and see Harvey dent join forces with Batman to take him down

Finally, we see the detective comics issues of joker war which I think are abysmal. The first features Batwoman and the second killer croc but they both add nothing to the ongoing crisis in Gotham and are the most uninspiring fillers I have read in a long time. This for me brings the rating down from 4 to 3 stars.

Overall, another decent volume to add to the detective comics collection but the whole book lacked flair. It was not a bore or difficult to read but there was nothing stopping me putting this one down, the same could be said about the previous 4 volumes of detective comics. Ok, but I expect better from tomasi.
