Enjoyed the main story and also the little short stories at the end. The art was done very well. The dialog at times was a little cheesy lol but it's cause of the old style. But nothing old about this comic. Just a good and well done Batman and Joker graphic novel.

The main story of "Batman: The Man Who Laughs: The Deluxe Edition" is great. It is a solid origin story for the Joker and Brubaker did a great job in capturing the essence of the Clown Prince of Crime. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I liked how it was consistent in its pacing and tone. The art was well done also. I like how Brubaker wrote from both Batman's POV and Gordon's POV also. My only complaint about the story was that the ending was a bit rushed. But, it captured Batman's struggle (to keep himself from killing the Joker) well. I like how it showed Batman's detective skills also and the art was good too.

The "Batman: Gotham: Noir" story was a good one as well. It showed a side of Jim Gordon that I am not used to seeing - an alcoholic ex-cop. However, it makes sense to me, given all that he has seen and been through over his career. One thing that I didn't see quite working out was that Bruce Wayne served in the military as well (given his aversion to guns), but it is an Elseworlds story, so it's not too much of a big deal to me. I liked the mystery, tension, and stakes throughout. The pacing was solid as well. The dialogue was good as was the art. There was one long scene of exposition (and probably could have been shown rather than recounted to Batman), but it provided good backstory and tied everything to the present.

"Made of Wood" is a good story as well. There was a bit of jumping back and forth between scenes and flashbacks - and I personally, am not a fan of having more than two POVs in a story. Nonetheless, I like the mystery in this one as well. It kept me intrigued. It was cool seeing Batman and Green Lantern working together and using each other's strengths, especially the latter's powers and the former's skills as a detective (as with the other two stories, I enjoyed the detective work too). The ending and pacing were good as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed all three stories and recommend this book.

Tom King's Winning Card sucked in dialogue, plot, setting, storyline, characterization, etc. This story does better justice to Batman, Gordon, Joker, and a decent origin story. The dialogue is believable and not corny. The build-up and pacing of the story works. Ed Brubaker is a fantastic writer in general, from Gotham Central and his treatment of the GCPD to Amazon Prime's Caped Crusader, especially when it comes to crime noir and Batman stories. It had been years since I revisited Batman: The Man Who Laughs and not only did it hold up, but it was better than I remembered! Probably because Tom King's writing is so bad that Brubaker is Alan Moore and Dennis O'Neil level good in comparison...

A well written introduction to the Joker that shows how terrifying the clown prince of crime can be without getting too edgy. The inclusion of “Gotham: Noir” and “Made of wood” make this deluxe edition more than worth the money, as both stories are well written and fun to read.

The man who laughs is a renovation of the Joker's origin story and is combined with an updated version of his first appearance in Batman. The other stories in this collection are great reading too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coringa é coringa né?
