Garry Kasparov grew up in Baku, Azerbaijan (USSR) and became the youngest ever world chess champion in 1985 at the age of 22. He held that title until 2000. He retired from professional chess in March 2005 to found the United Civil Front in Russia, and has dedicated himself to establishing free and fair elections in his homeland. A longtime contributing editor at The Wall Street Journal, Kasparov travels around the world to address corporations and business audiences on strategy and leadership, and he appears frequently in the international media to talk about both chess and politics. When not traveling he divides his time between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

BCO2 is getting long in the tooth

BCO2 was published in 1989 and the latest references are from the late 1980's. Opening theory has come a long way since then which makes this book of limited usefulness in 1998. Unfortunately, BCO3 and MCO14 are not even rumored yet, leaving an up-to-date single-source reference unavailable to tournament players. If you must have a copy of this book, try not to pay too much for it.

This is awful for anyone under a 2000 rating. It has no commentary whatsoever, just hundreds of opening sequences in chess notation. Not helpful whatsoever if you wish to learn the strengths and weaknesses of any given opening, nor how you should best respond to a certain opening by your opponent, or anything, really. Absolutely useless.

'Batsford Chess Openings' written by Ramond Keene and Garry Kasparov is a solid reference book if one wants knowledge on every kind of opening imaginable. It is useless to memorize those openings though. When one plays chess, one should always play the most natural moves. That way they will develop their thinking skills and confidence.

i have not had time to review the book because of school but every kasparov book has lots of information on chess because he is the former world champion if he defeats kramnik next january he will be world champion once again as for the seller the book arrived at my door in 4 days 1 day before scheduled arrival so im pleased the book was in used condition but i was told that before hand so no complaints
