Fixed my dead graphene battery

Fixed my dead graphene battery
My biggest complaint about this charger is how loud the button press indication and alarms are. This is a powerhouse of a little battery charger and you would think that all of the intelligent charging and whatnot would just get in the way and possibly stop you from charging a problematic battery, but its actually the opposite, but more on that later. As far as I can tell this charger can put out a maximum of 5 amps even for a 6s battery, or at least the menu lets you program it to do that. The power supply is separate and not included for this charger, but I actually prefer it that way because the model with the built in 120v supply is a little undersized. The power supply I used was a 72 WATT DC 12V 6A brick and in order to keep it from getting too hot I kept my output for my 4S charging at 3 amps. My only complaint is the cables that come with the charger don't include an XT60 to banana plug cable. It does come with a banana plug to a flimsy alligator clip cable which I used while waiting for my XT60 adapter to arrive.About that problematic battery charging, a friend and I both bought some nice $35 graphene batteries and they were dead on arrival, unable to charge. Regular chargers that just have an led for each cell wouldn't charge these batteries because they had a dead cell. When I plugged them into this charger it even said the first time that I had a 4s programmed but I had a 3s plugged in because it couldn't see voltage for one of the cells, but it gave me the option to charge anyway so I did and I checked the cell voltages screen and sure enough the cell voltage was almost 0 but rising quickly, then it threw a battery error and stopped. The video attached is the 3rd or 4th attempt and after 5 or 6 tries it finally got the cell above 3 volts and charged it like normal. Now these problematic batteries recharge on all the simpler 4s chargers as well. So this charger saved about $30 by being so cheaply priced and another $70 by fixing some dead batteries.

I will start by saying that for the price, this charger is great. The complaints from other reviewers don't make sense in this price range.

I have put my NiMh and lipo batteries through many cycles and it works perfect. The lipo balancing is good, charges very closely to the stated capacities of the batteries and does it as quickly or as slowly as i choose (0.1 amp increments).

You will need to purchase a separate ac/dc adapter but there is a nice one that u can buy together "Replacement LCD Monitor Ac Adapter 12v 5a Power Supply with Cord". This adapter plugs directly in and works great and total cost is still lower than most other options. If you do purchase a different one just make sure its at least 12 Volt and capable of 5 Amps.

Straight out of the box, the unit is loud with beeps, but it took me all of 10 secs to find the user settings to disable the sounds. Now it is nice and quiet. You might also need to adjust the mAh cutoff if you have large capacity batteries (>5000 mAh) but that is easy as well.

Setup is easy, select battery type and amperage and hold enter.

Plan on buying or building the connector for your RC battery as it basically only includes the original deans connector.

It's a Knockoff one, but it works great. As other reviews have said, buy some balance lead extenders and a LiPo charging bag (or two) to be safe. For the price, it works exactly as I'd like it to, which is awesome. It does not come with a 12V power cable, but other reviews posted the IntroCircuit LCD 60W 12V 5A Adapter Charger for Benq LCD Monitors works well, and it does. If you don't want to go out and buy one, but have an old PC power supply laying around, you could easily convert that into a stable 12V power source as well!

I've used this charger to charge 2 7.4V LiPo Stick Packs from Peak racing without issue. It balacnes too when needed. I've also used them to breathe new life into some 7.2V NiMH stick packs from various makers that are nearly 10 years old. My Duratrax charger would charge them, but the iMax B6 seems to be able to get them up to proper voltage without as many issues as my Duratrax has.

I would also suggest just playing with the charger. The manual has the basics about how to initiate a charge, but if you're sick of hearing those beeps on every button press, you can easily turn them off in the settings. Took me about 2 minutes to find it just playing around with the different buttons.

This thing is complete junk. It is very obviously a fake, and not a very high quality one, either. It failed after using it for only 3 charges. On the third time, which was an unbalanced charge through the BNC jacks (3S LiPo), the alarm went off indicating that it was done after only 10 minutes or so, and it turned out that it had barely charged the pack at all. Now, whenever I try to balance charge a 3S LiPo, it says "Connection Break" with a very loud alarm, and that's it. I tried with three different, good battery packs, and get the same thing with all of them. It will no longer charge in balance mode, and frankly, I'm scared to even attempt an unbalanced charge with this thing. I just don't trust it anymore, and would rather not blow up my batteries or burn down my house.

Spend the extra money on the real thing, so you know what you're getting.

I actually use this charger for:
o 18.5v (5 cell) Lipo battery
o 18v NiCD batteries

I modified my Black and Decker 18v battery pack by replacing the old, dead NiCd's and wired in an equivalent LiPo RC helicopter battery in instead. This charger works great, its small and comes with alligator clips so there's no need to buy those. You do need to order separately the power adapter. You can get it off Amazon: "Replacement LCD Monitor Ac Adapter 12v 5a Power Supply with Cord" ASIN: B0023Y9EQC. But you can't beat this price.

I also recharge my normal 18v B&D and DrillMaster power tool battery packs with this charger. It works way better than the dumb chargers that come with the battery packs. This way you can guarantee you get a full charge in only 20-60 minutes.
