Funds wasted.

New battery tender plus purchased as a replacement. As an electrician, this unit is properly installed on a new fully charged battery reading 12.7V.
The battery tender plus should be reading a steady green in this environment. However, it constantly reads a flashing red...indicating that the unit not properly connected....which is not the case. Suspect an internal wiring or circuit problem on the battery tender itself.
VENDOR HAS IGNORED MY REQUEST FOR SERVICE AND CORRECTIONS!...Funds wasted.

bought my first one of these in 1993, and it lasted until 2016-- about 23 years

so I bought a second one, which lasted only about 2 years of light use, and then-- because it failed right when it was needed, a third one, which lasted a couple of days

it used to be "build a better mousetrap"

now it's "build a cheaper and cheaper and cheaper mousetrap" .

and then trade on the good name. until at some point, it doesn't even catch mice anymore

what about the warranty? well the proper warranty seems to last only 90 days. that's really how good Deltran think this product is. 90 days....

the "ten year warranty" seems to cost the customer about the "unit cost" to Deltran

Every customer who reads, on the Amazon site, that this Battery Tender product has a 10-year warranty will assume that within those ten years the product can be returned for repair (without charge for the repair) or replacement (without charge for the replacement), at the manufacturer’s discretion. What Deltran DOES charge you, during a substantial portion of that warranty period, is an evaluation fee to determine what’s wrong with the unit and how they’ll deal with it. This is an outright deception. In my experience, it’s a fine charger, and I’ve never had a problem with it. But if I ever do I have problem, it may be cheaper to buy a new charger through any retail outlet than to pay the evaluation fee plus shipping. The warranty period, as clearly stated on the “From the Manufacturer” section of the Amazon page for this product, is a lie. Hence the single star.

After leaving this on my car all winter, it didn't keep the battery charged. I thought it may have been my hook up but I asked a shop to show me how to connect and it wouldn't work for them either. I'm hoping for a response here to try to replace this item as link to return is no longer active.

Unpackaged new product for the first time and unit sends no current of any type through leads (it does have power at the plug). Attempted to contact/get reply from manufacturer and NO RESPONSE AT ALL. What a POS unit and disgraceful customer service.

i "inherited" a boat and various equipment including a brand new battery...never used. But it sat in my garage for more than a year and I wondered what condition it would be in when I tried to charge it. Bought this charger and it showed a steady red light for almost 2 days so I thought it might be flakey. Then it went to green so all is well!

UPDATE:12/31/2017 - The unit no longer works. No lights at all. Nothing. Guess I jumped the gun on this as I wrote a positive review (above) in the first few days of ownership but it died. Wasted my money after all.

I used this charger very little in our garage. noticed one morning that the units lights were off. Found the GFCI had tripped. Reset it to realize the tender starts having smoke come out of it and eventually breaker tripped again. So figuring it comes with 10 years warranty I checked out their website to find out the following:

The costs of transporting products to Deltran for warranty service is the
responsibility of the purchaser, after 90 days with proof of purchase.

I could handle that, but on top of it I have to pay $12.95 for a Warranty Evaluation, Shipping & Handling (WESH) Fees. So all told I'll be out another $15-20 for a product that cost me less than $50.

Essentially you get a 90 day warranty, anything after that you pay for shipping and warranty evaluation.

Ordered Dec. 23 to replace the 4 1/2 year old BatteryTender that died on me. With my car stored 1 1/2 hours drive north of Kingston, and all the winterweather, I couldn't get in the cottage road until Feb. 2....a friend slid off the road taking 24 hours before a tow truck could respond. Then, the BatteryTender didn't work; at all.
The company's response was "Sorry, this order is not eligible for a refund under the A-to-z Guarantee"; meaning 30 days. Translation: refunds absolutely must be requested within 30 days. Delving into Amazon's website, I did indeed confirm that is policy; absolute policy, it appears.
I've contacted the company on their "warranty" website and will have to chase that option down at my expense.
So, just a warning...."Sorry, this order is not eligible for a refund under the A-to-z Guarantee."

EDIT: We recently experienced a bout of extreme cold, and I discovered that the battery tender will not charge a battery in cold conditions. I would connect the leads and it would appear to be charging the battery at first, but after a minute or two the red and green lights would flash, indicating an error. Mind you it was -50c outside. After bringing the battery tender inside to warm up, it worked perfectly fine.

It appears to be doing what it promises to do + comes with a 10 year warranty. Costco Canada sells identical unit for about 40% less but with a 5 year warranty. That's a huge difference for the additional warranty term which I would usually pass on so it is my own fault for not price checking more thoroughly. Last similar unit lasted well more than 10 years until it suddenly passed away.

This Battery Tender does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I got the plus because some of the smaller models are now made in China. This one is still made in the USA. My bike sat all winter in a Canadian garage (Ice Cold Beers - No fridge required) with the battery still in. I was fearful that I would need a new battery. Tried starting this spring and of course it was dead. Hooked up the battery tender in the evening and the next morning she fired up on the first try! Surprisingly it actually started faster than usual. Great product!!!

I was very leery with regards to purchasing a battery charger as I have heard a lot of horror stories. There is tons of information about different chargers on the market and I spent hours reading and watching videos. This particular charger is the only one that continued to get my attention. I wanted one that I could connect and forget about and I also wanted one with no options (no switches, dials, buttons etc.). All it has is 2 lights - one red and one green. The first time that I hooked it up, it took almost 36 hours to charge the battery. This was perfect because I was confident that the battery was given a good deep charge.
