We have a brand new 8' cedar fence with a Liftmaster 24v solar gate controller. This is a prissy gate (we call it Cody) that refuses to work when it's cold, rainy or the phase of the moon is just a little off. If it's too cold, the batteries won't go to the minimum required 23.5 volts (seriously Liftmaster?) and this mondo 1+ ton gate won't open. Pushing the sucker open uphill is like Sisyphus rolling the boulder up the mountain. This might have been OK 30 years ago, but that is because I'd be 30 years younger...
So... Adding this battery tender to the system solved a lot of problems.
Combining this with a battery heater and a custom set of bypass switches ultimately solved the problem. Eventually there will be a YouTube video on this topic.
I highly recommend this battery tender.
Liftmaster controllers, however...
At first I was going to get another indoor Tender and the 25' extension, but then I saw the waterproof model with mounting fins. Oh yeah.
I started to research this Tender, but no where was a definitive answer as to whether or not I had to disconnect the charger from the battery before driving.
I reached out to Tim @ Deltran and quickly received the following:
"You do not have to disconnect the unit from the battery prior to driving the vehicle. Just disconnect from the A/C power source."
Now I can run a bright extension cord to the truck (which I can see in the snow) whenever I want to feed my machine without the fear of _____.
