Michael Looney, the son of George W. Looney, is an author of Heroes are Hard to Find, a successful executive in the insurance industry, and a devoted father and husband. He was born in Arkansas, and graduated from high school and college in Texas. Michael found his father's original notes and maps after he passed away in 1998. This compelling and stunning biography of his father's tour in Europe in June 1944 to May, 1945 is one of the most unique combat biographies written to date.

Complete fiction regarding the German opponents

Yes, as a previous reviewer said, this book is complete fiction, at least as far as the German side is concerned. This is unfortunate and unnecessary since there is plenty of easily available information about the German order of battle, including from the original documents of the German units involved in the Battle of the Bulge, thousands of which I have in my own collection. Not only was Pieper nowhere near Hofen, there were no SS or panzer units anywhere near either. In fact, the American infantry battalion defending Hofen was attacked by several weak, poorly trained and motivated infantry battalion of one of what most analysts consider one of the two worst infantry divisions of the 6th Panzer Army, the 326th Volksgrenadier Division. In fairness to the valor of the American defenders, the attacking infantry did outnumber them and were backed by more artillery than the Germans usually had available at this stage in the war, but the only armor support available to them (if any) was a company of tank destroyers, outmatched by the company of 3-inch anti-tank guns entrenched with the American infantry battalion at Hofen, the 3rd battalion of the 395th regiment of the 99th Infantry Division. Although inexperienced, the 99th Infantry Division did fight well in the battle, not only at Hofen but also farther south along the shoulder of the 6th Panzer Army's bulge. This book is somewhat interesting to those who enjoy a war tale, but for anyone with a historical interest in the Bulge it is nearly useless.

Very good, but...

Very good, tons of pictures, but in my tought readers expect more about real jeeps and less about very old or recent four wheel military vehicles. In contrast of the title, there are too many pages describing other vehicles than "All American Wonder". At least should have much more information about M38, M38A1, M606, CJ's, the authentics relatives of WWII jeep...
But it's a very good book, no doubt.

better call it fiction!

Höfen was defended by 395th Inf Rgt of the 99th Inf Div. Never ever did Kampfgruppe Peiper attacked these men / units. I haven't read the book, but only by the introduction, I need to pick up my jaw, and say, this is a fiction, must be, cause it has nothing to do with reality.
